The Bulletin is designed for informational purposes to keep the West York Area School District Community informed of Board happenings and is not intended as an official record of meetings. Board Meeting Highlights

Tuesday, May 21, 2024 - Board Voting Meeting

President Kohler called the meeting to order and announced and executive session was held prior to the meeting.
The minutes from the May 14, 2024, Board Work Session were approved.
Miss Alyssa Hedgcock and Mr. Will Plappert shared updates from the High School Student Council.
Ms. Carrie Jones, Mr. Chris Storm, and High School Entrepreneurship Club students, shared a presentation about recent competitions. Students included:

Seniors: Sherrod Anderson and Randelle Agravante
Juniors: Nathan McGladrie, Owen Doolittle, Marco Cifuentes Araujo, and Philip Lingenfelter

Mr. Brandon Furhman recognized two student-athletes for breaking West York records:

Alita Paragon - Track & Field Pole Vault (11'3")
Rylyn Fant - Softball Career Hits and Career Home Runs

Dr. Davies shared a presentation honoring our Class of 2024 Summa Cum Laude graduates. Dr. Davies also responded to a community member's question from last week's public comment about graduation rates.

2022-23 School Year 4-year graduation rate 92%
2021-22 School Year 4-year graduation rate 86.2%

Work Session Highlights

Tuesday, May 14, 2024 - Work Session of the Board

President Kohler called the meeting to order and announced that an Executive Session had been held prior to it to discuss personnel and legal matters.
President Kohler asked for a moment of reflection regarding end of the school year and for a School Director who is under the weather.
The minutes from the April 16, 2024, meeting of the Board were approved.

Budget and Finance Committee (Treasurer Gettys, Chair) - Reported that the budget is sitting for public inspection and that it will be on the May 21st Board Agenda for action.
CEC Committee (Director Shope, Chair) - Director Shope - No Report
Cocurricular Committee Vice President Rice, Chair - No Report - Next Meeting: June 11, 2024.
Educational Programming Committee - Director Herman, Chair - No Report - Next Meeting: May 21, 2024
Facilities Committee - President Kohler, Chair - Reported on the next steps of the Athletic Fields Project. The timeline will be placed on the website.
Foundation for the WYASD - Director Myers, Chair - Will be looking into the need for an executive director.
Wellness Committee - Director Siatkowski, Chair - Reported about possible partnerships with local agencies.

External Committees and Boards:

West Manchester Township Recreation Committee - Director Herman - Reported about banners at the Sunset Lane fields and that she asked about the District advertising in the Township newsletter.
York County School of Technology—Director Harlacher reported about the feasibility study.
York Adams Academy - Director Siatkowski - Reported that graduation will be held on May 30th at 7 p.m, with approximately 63 graduates.
York/LIU Joint Authority and LIU Board of Directors - Treasurer Gettys reported that the search for an executive director will soon be underway.

Public Comment

Two community members spoke: one asked about graduation rate, and the other was a comment about the Athletic Fields Project and a question about a recently released EPA report.
