AMS Parent Peek
March 10, 2024
Good evening AMS Families.
As March Madness continues, the excitement of our 7th-grade field trip to CMCC adds another layer of thrill to our academic journey. It is a fantastic opportunity for students to engage with new experiences and deepen their understanding of various subjects outside the classroom. Last week's conferences were invaluable for fostering stronger connections between teachers, students, and families. We extend our gratitude to everyone who participated and contributed to productive discussions. We extend our thanks to all those who supported our recent Book Fair by purchasing items. Your generosity helps enhance our educational resources. As we enter the month of Ramadan, we wish all those observing a blessed and fulfilling month ahead.
Our field trip to Lost Valley was an unequivocal success! As soon as we arrived, the students eagerly set aside their tech devices and immersed themselves in a day of outdoor adventure. Tubing, skiing, snowboarding, and even some spirited board games kept everyone engaged and entertained. It was heartwarming to witness several students conquer their fears and learn how to ski and snowboard for the first time. Despite the rain threatening to dampen our spirits, nothing could deter us from enjoying every moment of our excursion. As the school day drew to a close on Thursday, the air was filled with laughter, tired but content faces, and memories that will last a lifetime.

PERSONAL HANDHELD ELECTRONIC DEVICES - CELL PHONES
Personal electronic devices, including cell phones and earbuds, are not allowed at AMS. Knowing that students and parents use cell phones for before and after school safety, we know students will have them at school. They need to be in student lockers at all times. If you need to reach your student, please call the school at 333-6655, and we will connect you with your student.
CELL PHONES and Ear Buds: We know students will have them so please follow these simple rules.
- Electronic devices MUST be kept in a student’s LOCKER during the school day (7:15 am - 2:00 pm).
- Students can only access their cell phones once the walkers get released.
- Teachers may allow a student to check their phones if they ask permission.
- Any VISIBLE cell phone will be collected and kept in a secure location in the office until the end of the school day.
- Students are responsible for picking up phones at dismissal.
STUDENT DRESS CODE
The School Committee recognizes that responsibility for the dress and appearance of students rests with individual students and their parent(s)/guardian(s). The School Committee will not interfere with this right unless students' personal choices disrupt the school program or affect the health or safety of others.
Dress Code Guidelines: as determined by the administration for Auburn Middle School, developed to support the educational process:
- Appropriate clothing should cover the entire torso. Exposed undergarments are considered inappropriate for school.
- Safe and suitable footwear should be worn at all times.
- Hats and hoods cannot be worn in the building except for religious or ethnic head coverings. Students will be asked to remove hoods, and hats will be kept in the office until the end of the school day.
Students breaking the dress code may be asked to cover, change, or call home for a change of clothes. Continual dress code infractions will result in disciplinary actions ranging from detention to suspension.
WAYS WE KEEP STUDENTS SAFE AT AMS
Safety is our first priority. This is why we have high expectations for student behaviors. It is why we train to evacuate and we train for intruders. Every staff member has multiple ways to access administration and are capable of making emergency calls as needed.
All the doors are locked all the time, external and internal
Hard wired phones in each room
Cameras that are observed
Secure front entrance
Badged staff
Practice safety measures
Staff members every 10 feet in the building
We do not have unannounced visitors
Bates mentors are trained and have background checks
Staff have multiple communication devices to contact others for immediate assistance
