Celebrating Earth Day
Year 5 Earth Day Worship
On Tuesday it was World Earth Day. On this day, many people across the world raise awareness of environmental issues and think about how their actions could be impacting the planet. The Year 5 children planned and delivered a fabulous whole school worship. As part of their worship they retold ‘The Starfish Story’ which shares the message that we can all make a difference to the world, no matter how big a problem can seem and no matter how small our actions may appear. Just like the boy in the story we can all change the world a little bit at a time. They then went on to share ways we can all help to protect the environment. Year 5 finished by launching a competition for children across school to create a poster promoting ways they think we can be more eco-friendly in our school. We are really looking forward to see all the posters and displaying some of them around school.
'Reduce, Reuse, Recycle' Courageous Advocates
As part of Year 5's courageous advocacy work on ‘Reduce, Reuse and Recycle’ the children decided they would like to do some litter picking in our local community. After identifying several areas in Ripon where there is lots of litter, on Tuesday morning they visited Paddies Park in Ripon. As you can see they did a brilliant job collecting bin bags full of mostly plastic and glass bottles, crisp packets, chocolate and sweet wrappers and they even found lots of stuffing from a chewed up dog toy, a glow stick and 6p! The children will be sharing details of their next project very soon!
Purple Up Day!
Today we celebrated Purple Up Day with our service children (the children who have a parent in the military). The children shared a special worship with the school and their parents. All the children in school showed their support by wearing purple and donated money to the military charity the SSAFA. It's not too late to donate to this worthy cause via ParentPay. Thank you for everyone's support.
Easter Egg Competition
We had some truly 'egg-cellent' entries to the Friends' Disney-themed decorated egg competition this year! Our panel of judges from the Friends and Governors were very impressed with the high standard and the number of entries this year, and finding just two winners from each class was a tough task. However, congratulations to the following children who received their prizes in worship this morning:
Nursery – Violet and Oliver W
Reception – Poppy and Edie
Year 1 – Iris and Rory
Year 2 – Edwin and Travis
Year 3 – Levi and Alisa
Year 4 – Sophie and Skylar
Year 5 – Nastiya and Ella
Year 6 – Olivia M and Evie
Well done to everyone who took part for your creativity, imagination and effort. What a 'cracking' set of eggs!
Friends of the School
The Friends have several events planned for the summer term. Next week starts with a book fair; books will be on sale after school Tuesday through to Friday. The week ends with a disco! Nursery to Year 2 children are welcome from 5.30-6.30pm but must have a parent or responsible adult stay with them. The disco for KS2 children is 6.45-7.45pm. Parents do not need to stay but all children must be collected at the end of the disco. Please let us know if someone other than a named contact will be taking your child home. Thank you.
The annual duck race returns on Wednesday 21st May and will take place at 5pm at Fishergreen, near the stepping stones. Details to follow.
Final details for a summer fair are also being ironed out and we hope to publish more news soon.
It will be great to see as many families as possible at all these events. You'll have fun and get to know more people in the school community whilst also raising invaluable funds! Thanks as always to the group of parents who work hard to organise such a varied programme of events.
