Dear Families,
Thank you for the delicious soups and salads this past Tuesday to nourish us as the rain and clouds returned with slightly cooler weather. STEM Week continues with hands-on exhibits for all the grades during the school day, culminating with STEM Night this evening, starting at 5pm. Thank you PTA for bringing these enrichment experiences for all students!
On Wednesday, students practiced drop, cover and hold during Wednesday lunches - we never know when earthquakes happen, and we want to prepare for the unexpected, even during lunch. Everyone did a great job listening and applying their previous experience with earthquake drills in a very different setting.
We look forward to seeing many of you during our final Pastries with Principals this coming Wednesday to learn from our social studies curriculum developers. Come for the coffee, crumbles, and camaraderie.
Wishing you a relaxing weekend,
Betty & Brenda

Getting Ready for Smarter Balanced Testing
May starts our testing season where students in grades 3-5 are required to complete the Smarter Balanced Assessment for English Language Arts (ELA) and Mathematics online per WA State law requirements for public schools. 5th grade students are required to also take the Washington State Assessment for Science.
Here are some tips to help your student have a successful testing experience:
- Make sure they get plenty of sleep the night before and eat a nutritious breakfast.
- If they bring their school computer at home, please make sure they charge it at night and bring their computer back to school for testing.
- If available, please have them bring wired headphones in a bag labeled with their name. If they have Apple watches or other personal electronic devices, please keep those devices at home since they will not be allowed to wear those while taking the test.
