Feature Column - Understanding the EBR Gradebook
The Evidence-Based Reporting gradebook is designed to give a more transparent, skills-based view of a student’s progress. The gradebook provides clear insights into how well students are progressing towards proficiency of skills and standards, showing where they are successful and where they need more support. Understanding the gradebook is essential for staying connected with your student’s learning and helping them succeed.

Feature Column - Adult Education and Family Literacy Week
North Dakota Governor Doug Burgum recently signed a proclamation recognizing September 16-20 as Adult Education and Family Literacy Week in the State of North Dakota, joining the nation in lifting up the important work. The Fargo Public Schools Adult Learning Center is a regional hub for Adult Education and Family Literacy based out of the Agassiz school building with satellite sites supporting the southeastern portion of North Dakota.

National Merit Scholarship Semifinalists
Congratulations to the 10 Fargo Public Schools students who have been named Semifinalists in the 2025 National Merit Scholarship Program.
- Davies: Ariel Bahn, Bruce Lin, Karina Repina, Cady Wang
- North: Patton Bania, Gu Bu
- South: Elizabeth Mahli, Della Phillips, Greta Raum, Lukas Robinson
These 10 students are among 16,000 Semifinalists in the 70th annual National Merit Scholarship Program. The seniors have an opportunity to continue in the competition for some 6,870 National Merit Scholarships worth nearly $26 million that will be offered next spring. To be considered for a Merit Scholarship award, Semifinalists must fulfill several requirements to advance to attain Finalist standing, and approximately half of the Finalists will win a National Merit Scholarship, earning the Merit Scholar title.
Catalyst Certification
Congratulations to Eagles Elementary School Third Grade Teacher Kass Milne on being the first Fargo Public Schools staff member to receive Catalyst Certification in the 2024-25 school year!
The Catalyst Approach is a comprehensive professional development and implementation model based on observation of more than 50,000 classrooms and school-wide common spaces. It aims to accelerate deep implementation of skills that lead to the creation of improved classroom and school leadership, relationships, and culture.

Nominations for NDCEL Principal of the Year and Assistant Principal of the Year
The North Dakota Council of Educational Leaders is accepting nominations from teachers and community members for Principal of the Year and Assistant Principal of the Year at the elementary, middle school, and high school levels. Community members and teachers are encouraged to nominate a deserving principal who consistently goes above and beyond to inspire excellence in education!
Nominate a high school or middle school principal.
Nominate an elementary school principal.
Nominations for secondary principals are open until October 20 and nominations for elementary principals are open until November 11. Winners will be announced at the NDCEL Mid-Winter Conference on February 5-7.

Border Bank School Supply Donation
Thank you to Border Bank for the donation of backpacks and school supplies to help students in need! The generous donation was presented to FPS Assistant Director of Educational Justice Dr. Jen Sahr by Border Bank Retail Manager Grace Barry.
My Life is Worth Living - Next Wednesday
North Dakota families have the special opportunity to take part in a series of free, virtual events designed to support and inspire our community, and are especially geared toward teens and young adults. Developed by the creative team behind Rugrats, The Simpsons, and The Wild Thornberrys – My Life is Worth Living tells powerful stories of seven characters overcoming mental health struggles and suicidal thoughts.
Presented by the Cook Center for Human Connection, these family-friendly events will be hosted monthly from September 2024 to May 2025. The first event is next Wednesday, September 25 at 6 p.m., covering the topic of “What Parents Need to Know About Suicide Prevention.” View more information and register.

Fur Trade Simulation
Students in the North Dakota History class at North High School learned about the Red River Fur Trade from guest speakers Historical and Cultural Society of Clay County Director Markus Krueger and Brian Hardy from the Pembina State Museum. Fix it Forward
Ice Cream Social
Clara Barton Hawthorne Elementary School students and families came together to celebrate the new school year at the school's annual ice cream social. The social, sponsored by the CBH Parent Teacher Association since 2011, helps students, staff, and families of the paired schools get to know each other and build a shared community despite being split across two campuses.
