i-Ready Testing Parent Letter
All students participated in iReady testing this week. We will continue with those that were unable to finish and those that were absent next week. This is a diagnostic assessment that we use to support our instruction. In addition, iReady creates a personalized pathway where all students at Fox Ridge should be working on at home or during our intervention block (TLT). The goal is to complete at least 45 minutes of reading and math, but some of our older grades may emphasize completion of a lesson rather than just minutes. This is a reserach based tool and supports students leaening and building of skills. It is important that they work on iReady consistently throughout the year.
Fox Ridge Vision
At Fox Ridge, each student will achieve grade level standards in literacy, math and social emotional and behavioral skills.
Principally Speaking
Our 2024-2025 school year is off to a great start! Students seem excited to be at Fox Ridge, and relationships are being built and strengthened with staff, new classmates, and old friends. Everyone has transitioned smoothly back into the swing of things, following our Fox Ridge Expectations of “Be Respectful, Be Responsible, and Be Safe!” They are practicing the routines of their learning in their new classrooms, in the lunchroom, and throughout the school. We’ve had some curriculum changes over the past two years, and we are seeing a positive impact on student learning. Our teachers look forward to partnering with our families on this journey. Weekly newsletters are one way teachers share the work students are engaged in throughout the year.
Our Curriculum Night on September 10th is another opportunity to learn about grade-level standards and expectations, as well as get to know your child’s teacher. Please plan on joining us that evening. Teachers will provide two sessions, and parents can choose the session that works best for them. We will also offer childcare for K-5 students (unfortunately, no younger siblings) in the LRC and/or Multi-Purpose room, with some fun activities for them while parents are in the classrooms.
Today, staff engaged in learning throughout the day. The morning was dedicated to training for safety drills, and the afternoon focused on using iReady data to plan and ensure we provide the best instruction aligned with our learners. I have included a staff gathering during our lunch break today, building a strong collaborative staff is important.
The iReady diagnostic, taken these past weeks along with other data points, helps us determine intervention groups. Our reading and math specialists will begin meeting with students in a few weeks. Once this data is reviewed and groups are created, students will receive interventions and/or extensions in core content during our Targeted Learning Time (TLT), ensuring they do not miss new instruction. Kindergarten students will take iReady this week, starting Tuesday.
Curriculum Night Information
This year, D303 Elementary Schools are transitioning from the informal open house format of the past few years to a more structured Curriculum Night. Moving to formal teacher presentations will allow our parents to stay informed regarding our curriculum as well to learn about what a typical elementary day looks like. It will also give parents and teachers an opportunity to connect and discuss any questions regarding our curriculum and expectations. (Note: This will not be an evening where parents will be able to talk to the teacher regarding their individual child. Conferences will be held on October 10th and 11th.) Each grade level will present the same presentation twice. This will allow parents to choose a session to attend as well as give them the ability to attend multiple grade levels if they have more than one child at Fox Ridge.
This is an event for parents only. We recognize that childcare may be a challenge for some families. Our Fox Ridge staff will be providing supervision and activities for any students attending Fox Ridge (K-5) for that evening. Unfortunately, we are unable to provide care for children that do not attend Fox Ridge as a student.
We hope to see you all there!!
