MEA Summit
Save the date! On Friday, October 20th, we will be hosting our first annual MEA Summit. This event aims to foster a sense of community among our secondary students. Throughout the day, participants will engage in team building activities and critical thinking challenges, coordinated by Believe It. Achieve It., a local San Diego 501c3 organization.
To ensure everyone's comfort, we kindly ask students to come dressed in comfortable clothing and appropriate footwear. Please note that this event is mandatory for all students in grades 6-12. Don't worry about packing lunch, as it will be provided for everyone attending. For a schedule of events, please refer to the table below. Please make sure to fill out and submit the following participant waiver, extra waivers will be available in the Front Office.

We anticipate that this event will cultivate a strong sense of unity and camaraderie among the student body here at Mt. Everest Academy. We are excited about the potential of establishing this as a new tradition at our school. Please reach out to Principal Browne with any questions.

School Picture Day
We are excited to announce that School Picture Day is tomorrow, Oct. 17th! Wear your favorite outfit and bring your best smile!

Spirit Month
All month long we are celebrating with themed spirit weeks. Show your creativity and fun spirit with the for the following weeks:

MEA October Farmstand
MEA Farmstand will be in front of school, on Wednesday, from 12-1! We are nearing the end of zinnia season, and we will have two dozen mason jar flower arrangements (zinnias, marigolds, cosmos, and amaranth). We will also have freshly harvested cilantro, lemon balm, purple radishes, herb bundles, and more! All items are offered on a “pay as you feel” model, and we accept cash and PayPal transactions. Your support helps keep our MEA gardens flush with fresh food and flowers!
eSports All Team Meeting
This Tuesday at 3:05, MEA eSports Team will be having their first all-team meeting. The meeting will go over some basic information, rostering, Discord information and more. Students will need to have a completed copy of the eSports Player Packet and finish Rostering Google Form, to attend.
Announcements
Fall Festival
Come join us for an afternoon of community fun at the Fall Festival on Thursday, October 26, from 12:30-2:30pm, on the blacktop. ASB students will be running a variety of games and booths for children of all ages. There will be some fun events like a soaker booth, cookie decorating, ring toss, pumpkin decorating, face painting/henna and various carnival games.
A $5 wristband gets you unlimited play, which can be purchased here. Game booths offer tickets and you can turn your tickets in for prizes! Snacks will also be available for purchase, priced from $1 to $3 each. K-5 Students must be accompanied by a parent/guardian.
You’ll have a blast and you might even win some fun prizes!

LCFF and Federal Impact Aid Survey
Have you completed the LCFF and Federal Impact Aid Survey for the current school year? Completing these surveys help to secure additional funding for each student.
An email message was sent to all parents on October 11th regarding the Impact Aide Survey. If you have yet to complete this survey, please complete it ASAP using the instructions provided in the email, linked here. Filling out this survey takes only a few minutes and will help us to secure much needed funding.
Additionally, if you have not completed the LCFF form, please log in to the Parent Portal in PowerSchool and click on the LCFF Data Collection icon located on the left side to answer two questions. Please note that this function is only available through the Parent Portal, not the Student Portal. If you require assistance with registering for the Parent Portal, please feel free to email Mihoko Ikeuchi at mikeuchi@sandi.net.
Charleston Wrap
ASB schoolwide Charleston Wrap fundraising campaign accepts orders until December, however participants are no longer eligible for prizes. Prizes should arrive before the November break.
Your efforts have currently raised over $1500 for MEA! Help us reach our goal of $2,000. Remember every purchase gives 30-40% back to ASB. Over 2,500 great products to shop, get your holiday shopping done early. (This is not just wrapping paper, but nice, quality products.)

UCSD Tutors
Please welcome two tutors from UCSD to our school!
Sarah began last Wednesday, 10/11. She is a Computer Engineering major and a first-generation college student. Sarah will be on campus on Wednesdays:

2:30 - 3:00 HS AVID class
Martin will be returning to us on Wednesday, 10/18. He is a Psychology major. He can help with English such as Essays, General College Prep, and Resume Building. Martin can be found in PALS lab on Wednesdays in room 6 from 12:30 - 2:30.

Healthiest School Award
Our school won a Healthiest School award again for last year thanks to our Wellness Committee and their efforts to add more wellness to our school. Take a look at our monthly bulletin boards, the wellness recordings in the the Monday Message for students and monthly whole school craft opportunities to help with mental health (The Dot was for month 2). We also had sewing classes in the Makerspace (thanks to Karen Krampe). Look for information coming soon about our popular Pumpkin succulent craft for month 3 run by Miss Shannon!
The Wellness Committee is currently seeking student Wellness Ambassadors as well as parents to join our group. Please contact Vivian Sink, vsink@sandi.net, if you're interested in joining our award winning committee!
Native Seed Library
Our native seed library is now stocked! Please help yourselves to informational pamphlets and seeds to begin a native plant garden at home. The library is right outside the front office door. Thank you to Jenny Jilka (parent of Justin) for providing even more seeds from their home garden. If you have seeds you’d like to share, we have extra envelopes in the library for you to use. Please label the envelopes with the name of the seed and any other information you’d like to share.
The pamphlets, seed envelopes, and initial seed inventory came to us from the San Diego Audubon Society, and our library will now be registered on their site.
Leader in Me
Lighthouse Team
If you are a student in grades 6-12 and are interested in a leadership opportunity on campus, please consider joining the MEA Student Lighthouse Team. A Franklin Covey coach will lead a student training on Oct. 23 from 9:45-11:45. The Student Lighthouse Team will choose an area of improvement for our school, design a related project, and create an action plan for the year. Students will gain valuable skills and earn volunteer hours. If you are interested in this opportunity, please sign up here. We look forward to seeing you! Monthly Focus
This school year our whole school will be focusing on Leader in Me and the 7 Habits of highly effective kids and teens. Check the Monday Message each month for the monthly focus and what you can do at home to support your child.
During month 3, we are zeroing in on Habit 2, Beginning with the End in Mind. Students will be able to describe their personal values and create a long term goal and short term steps needed to accomplish their goal.
The elementary classes and the AVID classes are doing lessons with your students in class and assigned at home.

Parent Teach Conferences
There will be no K-5 classes this week due to Parent Teach Conferences.
Please consider coming in Tuesday to have your students photo taken for the yearbook. Make up picture day will be Oct. 31st.
Month 3 Elementary Art Class
Month 3 Elementary Art class will meet on October 24 and 31. Students will continue to learn about the elements of art and focus on value as they create an ice cream cone using tint and shade techniques. If you would like your child to participate, please sign up here:

Halloween Paper Circuits
You can pick up your package starting Tuesday - Thursday at 9am to 1pm. We have a limited number of kits. One per student. Have fun and get creative.
How the Grinch Stole Christmas
Hello MEA families!
We are lucky to have been awarded complimentary tickets to a student matinee of "How the Grinch Stole Christmas" at the Old Globe Theatre in Balboa Park! We would like to extend an invitation to our elementary students to attend. Basic details:
- Friday, December 1st from 9-12:30.
- Students with school employee chaperones will be traveling by school bus. We will meet at MEA at 9 and will return by 12:30. Please send a lunch to be stored at school and eaten after the play.
- We have a limited number of chaperone spaces to accompany our student seats. Mrs. Finney and two more staff members will be chaperoning the children.
If you want your student(s) to attend, please:.
- Fill out the field trip form, one for each student attending. First come, first serve. Get forms from the front office or from your elementary teachers. They are due in the main office no later than Friday, October 27th. Returning the form secures your spot. (There are thousands of students on the wait list, so we will release unused tickets after this date.)
- Agree to attend a pre-show workshop in November with the artists via Zoom (date and time to be announced).
- Agree/disagree to have your child be photographed during the event (for Old Globe promotional purposes). We hope your child can experience the excitement of Whoville at this holiday event!

Mathcounts
Mathcounts is a program that builds problem solving skills and positive attitudes about math, so students embrace challenges and expand their academic and career opportunities in the future. Testing Room
Mt. Everest Academy students have the opportunity to reschedule their tests, outside of scheduled class time, to be proctored by a staff member in B15. Students will require permission from their class teacher, before requesting to test in B-15. Requests should be made no later than 24 hours before your requested testing time.

PALS
Join us for PALS , peer tutoring and schoolwork collaboration, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday at MEA! PALS is available to all students in grades K-12. Elementary parents need to complete the PALS Check-in form and provide it to the PALS supervisor. This form lets our tutors know what assignment or skills you wish your student to work on while attending PALS.

San Diego Symphony Announces California Festival
The San Diego Symphony along with the Los Angeles Philharmonic and the San Francisco Symphony announced their participation along with 95 other statewide musical arts organizations in the California Festival. Presenting some of the most innovative and compelling music from around the world for two weeks, the festival will take place from November 3-19. Participating organizations include symphony orchestras, chamber music groups, jazz ensembles, choirs and more.
