Tuesday Transition Tips
Transition Tip #31
Money Smart
Happy Tuesday Everyone,
Last month my colleague Kelly and I attended a webinar called: Money Smart Townhall for October’s National Disability Employment Awareness Month (NDEAM). This webinar shared information along with a resource from a partnership between the FDIC and the Department of Labor: Office of Disability Employment Policy . The resource shared is called Money Smart. Did I mention that Money Smart is free with no copyright restrictions, objective, “out of the box”, and customizable. Money Smart is available in English and Spanish. Money Smart for Young Adults was developed for young adults ages 16- 24.
Money Smart is a financial education program. The Money Smart website has many resources for educators such as Teach Money Smart which is a teacher online resource center along with Train-the-trainer which contains videos, workshops, and modules along with Money Smart News for teachers with tips, updates and success stories. There is a Learn Money Smart tab for students that provides games, podcasts along with resources for parents. To enroll and gain membership and obtain more information go to: Money Smart: A Financial Education Program and if you have any comments or questions email: ConsumerEducation@fdic.gov .
Additional resources:
National Disability Institute a nonprofit organization who exclusively provides financial education and empowerment for people with disabilities.

Washtenaw County Post-Secondary Transition Manual
Washtenaw County Post-Secondary Transition Manual (Fall 2023 revision date)
This Tuesday’s Transition Tip is a review to some and introduction to others. It is important as special education providers/case managers that we create structured and detailed postsecondary transition plans for our students. The Washtenaw County Post-Secondary Transition Manual is a guide to assist special education staff with creating complaint post-secondary transition plans. This guide contains a table of contents to help locate information quickly. The manual also gives insight on how not only to build a complaint transition plan but a quality transition plan. It includes links, videos, and an appendix to assist. Please take the time to read and review the Washtenaw County Post-Secondary Transition Manual.
Don't forget our monthly Countywide Transition Coalition Meeting for Washtenaw County Transition District Designees, WISD teachers, consultants, and service providers is held on the 2nd Wednesday of every month from 9am-11am at the Teaching and Learning Center.
