The Wachusett Regional School District has joined the Massachusetts Inclusive Concurrent Enrollment Initiative (MICEI) at Quinsigamond Community College (QCC). This is a college-school partnership to support public high school students, ages 18–22, to increase their academic and career success by being included in a college or university community of learners.
In December, our STEP 2 students visited and toured the campus. The student visited the Admissions building which included the school store, the cafeteria, and a food pantry. They also toured the library, classroom buildings, and the Student Center. This was an opportunity to discuss what it's like to be in college while being on campus! We are excited about bringing this new experience to our students.
Students at Mountview worked on an exciting and collaborative project in 6th-grade Social Studies. They worked in small groups to research and create posters that explore the 7 characteristics of specific civilizations we will study later this year. Students learned their civilization's key features, such as government, religion, writing systems, and social structure. They then used their research to illustrate how these civilizations developed and thrived by including descriptions and images. This project not only helped students understand how civilizations function, but they also learned important collaboration skills.
