Dear Fulton Community,
As we approach the winter holiday break, it’s a time to celebrate the spirit of generosity, kindness, and community, and we are excited to bring these values to life in the days ahead.
Many grade levels will be participating in gingerbread house-making, a beloved tradition that fosters creativity and winter cheer. We’re looking forward to seeing our students' imaginative designs and the joy this activity brings to everyone involved.
Thank you for your continued support! We wish you and your family a wonderful and restful holiday season. We can't wait to finish this year on a high note with our students!
Wishing you wave of joy,
Dr. Burks, Mrs. Liwosz, & Mrs. Sillers
Student Government Association (SGA) Spotlight
A huge thank you to Mr. Carr and Mr. Burgwyn for sharing videos about using code in their jobs. We learned a lot and the students enjoyed seeing how code works.
SGA is hosting a Winter Spirit Week countdown to Winter Break.
Monday, December 16 - Sweater Day - wear a winter themed sweater.
Tuesday, December 17 - Snowflake Day - wear white like a snowflake. The students were wondering if they could make snowflakes to hang around the school.

Thursday, December 19 - Cozy Day - wear a winter hat, scarf, or mittens to stay warm at school
Friday, December 20 - Pajama and Stuffed Animal Day - wear cozy pajamas or sweatpants and bring a stuffed animal (that can fit in the backpack) to school.
Please remember all activities are optional.
Council of Elders Celebration of African American Students in 4th & 5th Grade
We are incredibly proud to celebrate the academic achievements of our African American students who have received recognition from The Council of Elders of the Black Community of Howard County. These students were honored for their outstanding academic performance during the 2023-2024 school year, and we could not be more thrilled to share this achievement with all of you.
Annually, the Celebration of Academic Achievement recognizes African American students in grades 4 through 9 who have demonstrated exceptional success in their studies. Specifically, for 4th and 5th graders, students earned As or Bs in both mathematics and Language Arts across all four quarters, while maintaining high academic standards in all subjects, were honored during this celebration.
These students were honored at an online ceremony hosted on Wednesday, December 4th, by The Council of Elders and will receive their certificates soon in recognition of their hard work. Their dedication and commitment to excellence are truly inspiring, and we know they are well on their way to even greater achievements in the future.
Reminder about Carloop
As a friendly reminder, please avoid lining up too early for arrival and dismissal. When cars arrive too early, it can disrupt the traffic flow and make it more difficult for families leaving Lime Kiln Middle School.
To help everyone get in and out safely and efficiently, we ask that you please wait until closer to the designated pick-up and drop-off times before entering the line. Your cooperation is greatly appreciated and helps ensure a smoother experience for all!

Holiday Shoppe
The Holiday Shoppe was a huge success! Thank you to Grayce Kim, Esther Jan, Gozde McGuire, Mi-Young Ryee and Rachael Schwartz for an amazing event. Another thanks to Nicole Davison who was the PTA Board POC. The kids put so much thought into the gifts they picked out for their loved ones!
Worth Repeating
December Character Trait: Service
Our character trait for the month of December is Service. We are defining service, as lending a hand to help someone else.
To engage your children at home around the topic of service, describe a service project you participated in as a kid or teenager. You could also ask your child(ren) what are some ways they would like to serve in our community?
Staff Favorite's Things
The holiday season is just around the corner, and we wanted to make gift-giving a little easier (and a lot more fun!) for you. Our amazing staff has shared their favorite things—from books and games to treats and hobbies—and we thought you might like to check them out as you plan for the season of giving.
You can view our list of staff favorites here
Playground Safety Reminder
We've recently noticed a few incidents of children falling off the monkey bars, and we wanted to take a moment to remind everyone about the importance of playground safety. Please encourage your child to use equipment appropriately, one at a time, and to always be mindful of their surroundings while playing.
We recommend reinforcing the importance of waiting their turn, using the monkey bars safely, and being cautious when climbing. Together, we can help ensure a safe and fun playground experience for all children.
Thank you for your attention and support!
Midterm Check-In: Please Review Your Child's Grades on Canvas
As we move into the midterm of the quarter, we encourage you to take a moment to check your child’s progress on Canvas. Reviewing their grades and assignments can give you valuable insight into their performance and help identify areas where they might need extra support or encouragement.
To view your child’s grades,
- Login: Access HCPSS Connect using your credentials.
- Select Canvas: Navigate to the "Canvas" section within HCPSS Connect.
- Choose Student: Click on the "Students" icon to select your child.
- View Grades: Click on the "Grades" link to see their grades for each course.
If you have any questions or notice anything concerning, please don’t hesitate to reach out to your child’s teacher—we’re here to support both you and your child’s success.
Thank you for your continued partnership, and for staying engaged in your child’s education. Together, we can ensure they finish the semester strong!
Prepare for Inclement Weather
As we head into winter and colder days, we wanted to remind you that students will continue to go outside for recess on most days, weather permitting. Please make sure your child comes to school dressed in warm clothes and layers to stay comfortable during outdoor activities. Please clearly label their hats, coats, and gloves.
Below is HCPSS criteria we consider when having outdoor activities:
Temperature and humidity
Wind chill
Heat index and air quality
Age of students
Length of time outdoors
Adequacy of the children’s clothing
Condition of the playground
Falling precipitation (more than a sprinkle or mist)
Thunder and lightning
Generally, it is assumed that students will be outside for recess, physical education, or any other outdoor activity when the temperature combined with the wind chill is not less than 20 degrees Fahrenheit or the heat index reading is less than 95 degrees Fahrenheit.
Please reach out to Ms. Courtemanche at samantha_courtemanche@hcpss.org if you are in need of cold weather gear.
