*commit- Recite the school family chant. Have students commit to something that helps keep our class safe.

A to Z Helping Hands
Turn to pages 14-15 and discuss how the crossing guard keeps students safe. Recite the street crossing safety rule (when crossing the street, use your ears and your eyes before you use your feet). Turn to pages 30-31 and discuss how the teacher helps children learn.
This Way to Pre-K
Sing "Do You Know the Principal" Discuss how the principal helps the school run smoothly.
Remind students this book is about a pre-k classroom and discuss all the things the teacher helps the children learn.
Literacy Circle 9:10-9:35
Display Photo Activity Cards (77 and 78) and discuss how each individual helps us learn.
Put on a baseball hat and a whistle and tell students you are going to play a game and be their coach. The name of the game is Don't Let the Ball Fall and have the students form a circle. Have a student toss the ball to a friend when they hear the whistle blow. The friend who catches the ball has to rhyme with the word "fall"
Remind students we will have a weekly word of the week and tell them what our Wonderful Word of the Week is (grateful)

Display the picture of the Librarian on page 15 from Neighborhood Helpers and discuss the job of the librarian. The librarian takes care of the books, counts them to make sure they have been returned, and sorts them by subject and Authors name.
Display a collection of books on the floor near an empty bookshelf. Count the books and invite children to help you sort them. Gather them back up and recount to show them that there are still the same amount of books.
