Principal Updates
Thank you!
Thank you for supporting Giving Month and our PTSA. The Carnival was a blast! We enjoyed seeing so many students and families. We're grateful for the amount you've helped us raise (already at $120K with corporate matching) for Cherry Crest; all dollars that directly impact our school and student learning. We appreciate your partnership and support. We hope to see you on October 25th at Family STEM Night to end our month of giving. 💗

Be On Time: In Seats at 8 AM!
Our school day begins right at 8 AM. Please ensure you arrive on time so that our students can start their day with the rest of their peers in their classroom. Setting up strong morning routines and arriving to school early is a great way to set your child up for success later in life. Your child is more likely going to succeed in middle and high school when strong routines are in place in their elementary years.
We know things come up (so please don't stress!) and when your child arrives into the school building on or after 8 AM, they will check in at the main office first. This process allows us to ensure that students get to class safely. Our supervision staff are outside and in the cafeteria by 7:40 AM. Arriving to Cherry Crest as early as 7:35-7:40 AM is a great way to get students to their lines on time! This also means that students can walk with their class and teacher, versus walking to class independently.
Thank you for your continued support as we help our students rise to the expectations of an 8 AM start time. 🤩
Giving Month at Cherry Crest Elementary
Giving Month a focused period where PTSA is trying to activate donations to Cherry Crest Elementary (CCE) that aligns with many Corporate Giving initiatives. These funds are crucial to providing free field trips, free author visits, needed school personnel funding, family events, teacher grants, and much, much more. [See here for full details].
We will only have 2 fundraisers this year – Giving Month (Carnival – Oct 4th & Family STEM Night – Oct 25) plus Walkathon/Bingo Night on Friday, May 9th. PTSA’s goal is to collectively raise $200K.
Join PTSA and staff at Family STEM Night on October 25th!

Bus Expectations for Students
Please ensure your bus rider knows the following expectations. Whether at school or on the bus, all of our Chargers are expected to demonstrate the "Charger Way" - The Three Rs: Respect, Responsibility, and Readiness.
The BSD Transportation Department has recently worked on creating clear expectations for students, to ensure student safety and well-being while they ride the bus. Please review these expectations with your child, if your child takes the bus to/from school.
Fall Festivals at Cherry Crest
Celebrations
Teachers will communicate with families when fall celebrations are happening, either on October 31st or November 1st. While students may wear costumes to school on Halloween day, our celebrations are inclusive to all celebrations that may occur in the fall (i.e. Diwali and Día de los Muertos).
Never is it our intention to exclude students from school on October 31st. Please email Principal Stedman with questions at stedmane@bsd405.org.
Alternative Celebration
On October 31st, Mrs. Chu and Ms. Mykela, are hosting an alternative to Halloween.
There will be a book celebration for students who need an alternative to parties happening on Halloween day (Thursday, 10/31 at 1:30 pm).
Students will learn about bucket fillers and will listen to the story: How Full Is Your Bucket! Students will enjoy activities related to the story and are welcome to join us in dressing up as a favorite book character.
Please RSVP directly to Mrs. Chu at chua@bsd405.org.
Costumes
- Wearing costumes on Halloween is allowed, but optional (with the following guidelines: No weapons, masks, gore, or cultural appropriation)
- What is cultural appropriation? The general rule of thumb: "My culture is not your Halloween costume."
- Please be considerate as you plan costumes this year as to not reflect another person's heritage or culture that is not your own. Thank you!

New Sensory Friendly Performances – Bellevue Youth Theater
Bellevue Youth Theater is piloting a new program to make theatre more accessible for all: Sensory Friendly Performances. These are performances specifically designed for audiences who are on the spectrum or have other sensory-processing sensitivities.
Sensory friendly performances will have increased lighting, lower sound volumes, a designated quiet zone, sensory guides and complimentary fidgets, items in the lobby that can be touched and explored prior to the show, an actor introduction of the show, and the permitted use of digital devises. Fewer seats will be sold for these shows to make for a more comfortable viewing experience. Our goal is to welcome many into the theatre who may not have been comfortable before.
