Howdy Bronco Family! ‘Tis the season to be Jolly! Christmas trees are up. Stockings are hung. Christmas crafts are in the making. The students are working hard during rehearsals for their Christmas program. And, parties are being planned. The Christmas season is definitely here at Burleson Elementary.
With Christmas break literally around the corner, that means the end of our first semester is coming quickly. I am so proud of the students and staff who continue to work hard each day. I know everyone is excitedly waiting for December 19 to get here, but they know there is still some business to take care of. That is exactly what they all are doing, and I couldn’t be prouder.
I am so excited to watch our PK-4th students perform in the Christmas program. Mrs. Estrada and the students have worked on the last couple of months. Parents and friends are invited to watch the performance on Wednesday, December 11th at 6:30pm in the Carpet Gym. I hope to see all of you there!
Remember, you can always find the latest Meadow ISD news on the MISD website and Facebook page, so go check them out! Also, check your kiddo’s backpack and folders for any important paper notes that may have gone home.
Don’t forget to contact your child’s teacher if you have any questions about what is going on in the classroom. We are always here to help.

Math- This week the students have worked on listening to addition and subtraction stories. They are learning to listen to key words and drawing a picture to show what is happening. Then the students are solving problems involving addition and subtraction. We have also started our new Unit on graphing. Students will create and read graphs to determine which has more, or fewer.
Phonics- In Phonics we will work on letters Zz and Cc. We will continue to identify initial, medial and final sounds. The student will also count words in a sentence.
Reading- We are listening to our interactive read alouds (IRA’s) and we are retelling stories. The students are also practicing identifying genre, type of genre and point of view.
AR Reading- All the Kindergarten students need to be read to for 20 minutes and then they need to be prepared to take an AR test the following day. The students also need to study their high frequency words. A new set of words will go out with your child this week.
Science- We have started our new Unit of Patterns in the Sky. The students will identify and describe patterns of day and night and their observable characteristics.
-Please send a refillable water bottle each day.

Matemáticas: esta semana los estudiantes han trabajado escuchando historias de suma y resta. Están aprendiendo a escuchar palabras clave y a hacer un dibujo para mostrar lo que está sucediendo. Luego, los estudiantes resuelven problemas de suma y resta. También hemos comenzado nuestra nueva unidad sobre gráficos. Esta semana en Primer Grado estamos trabajando en: ~Elementos de la historia en los cuentos navideños. ~ Contando hacia adelante y hacia atrás hasta 120 y contando salteado ~Celebre la Semana de la Libertad ~Escribir una historia con un principio, un desarrollo y un final. ~ Escritura navideña ~Empuja y tira Estamos aumentando nuestros puntos AR, ¡están logrando un gran progreso hacia sus objetivos! ¡Lea un libro con ellos todas las noches para que puedan realizar muchas pruebas de AR! ¡Tendremos una revisión de palabras reconocibles a la vista esta semana!
What a great Thanksgiving break! We don't have very long until our next one! We came in a jumped right into some new content. We have become great at adding 2-digit numbers with regrouping, we have started subtracting 2-digit numbers with borrowing. In reading/social studies we have been working on a Christmas Around the World research project. We talked about how to find kid friendly search engines, how to find information online, and developing/following a research plan. The kids did a wonderful job on this project, it has been a great reflection of their growth this far! We will have a sight word quiz on ALL pink sight words next week. A new spelling list will be sent home today, spelling test will be next Wednesday. Please encourage your child to read at home, it is not only a way to help with AR goals but the extra practice will show in the long run!

¡Qué gran descanso de Acción de Gracias! ¡No tenemos mucho tiempo hasta el próximo! Entramos y saltamos directamente a contenido nuevo. Nos hemos vuelto excelentes sumando números de 2 dígitos con reagrupación, hemos comenzado a restar números de 2 dígitos con préstamos. En lectura/estudios sociales hemos estado trabajando en un proyecto de investigación Navidad alrededor del mundo. Hablamos sobre cómo encontrar motores de búsqueda aptos para niños, cómo encontrar información en línea y cómo desarrollar/seguir un plan de investigación. Los niños hicieron un trabajo maravilloso en este proyecto, ¡ha sido un gran reflejo de su crecimiento hasta ahora! La próxima semana tendremos un cuestionario de palabras reconocibles a la vista sobre TODAS las palabras reconocibles a la vista en color rosa. Hoy se enviará a casa una nueva lista de ortografía y la prueba de ortografía será el próximo miércoles. Anime a su hijo a leer en casa, no solo es una forma de ayudar con los objetivos de AR, ¡sino que la práctica adicional se notará a largo plazo! ¡Gracias por todo lo que haces! Sra. Alaniz
3rd Grade ELAR
Spelling:
Our words this week are more high frequency words that may or may not follow regular spelling patterns or rules. Please help your child study each evening, ready for a test on Friday.
Reading:
We are continuing with Comp-A-Day mini passages and will be using one of these passages to introduce Drama this week. We will also test on Friday with another released STAAR passage.
Language/Grammar:
We are working on identifying and using complete sentences, (subject & predicate) using Fast Focus.
AR Reading:
We are nearing the end of the 2nd nine weeks and reading point goals will be due very soon. Please help your child be successful and be able to participate in the AR rewards activities by achieving their goal. Please remember reading is the key to all learning!

ELAR de 3er grado Ortografía: Nuestras palabras de esta semana son palabras más frecuentes que pueden o no seguir patrones o reglas ortográficas regulares. Ayude a su hijo a estudiar todas las noches, listo para el examen del viernes. Lectura: Continuamos con los mini pasajes de Comp-A-Day y usaremos uno de estos pasajes para presentar Drama esta semana. También haremos la prueba el viernes con otro pasaje STAAR publicado. Idioma/Gramática: Estamos trabajando en identificar y usar oraciones completas (sujeto y predicado) usando Fast Focus. Lectura AR: Nos acercamos al final de las segundas nueve semanas y los objetivos de puntos de lectura se entregarán muy pronto. Math/Science/ Social Studies
In math we are learning about equivalent fractions.
In science we are learning about the relationship between the sun, moon, and the Earth.
In social studies we are learning about landforms and physical characteristics on a map.
Please make sure your child practices their math facts each night. Math fact test will be on Friday. Math fact homework is due on Friday.
Matemáticas/Ciencias/Estudios Sociales En matemáticas estamos aprendiendo sobre fracciones equivalentes. En ciencia estamos aprendiendo sobre la relación entre el sol, la luna y la Tierra. En estudios sociales estamos aprendiendo sobre accidentes geográficos y características físicas en un mapa. Asegúrese de que su hijo practique las operaciones matemáticas todas las noches. El examen de matemáticas será el viernes. La tarea de operaciones de matemáticas vence el viernes.
This is indeed a wonderful time of year, but it is also jam packed with a lot of activities that can sometimes make it the most overwhelming time of the year. Next week our students will be taking the Interim STAAR Test. 4th Grade will take the Math Test on Dec. 10 and the English, Language Arts, & Reading Test Dec. 11. These are very important evaluations that will help us to measure progress and find what we should focus on moving forward. Test time can be very stressful! It is really important for the students to be at school every day to help them feel confident to do well. It is also really important to focus on the health and wellbeing of the students at home. One thing 4th grade is struggling with is sleepiness. Please help us by making sure your child gets good quality rest each night.
Also, the students will be performing their Christmas Play, Wednesday, December 11th at 6:30 pm. I know they have worked very hard all semester and can't wait to perform for you. If you have any questions about the performance or anything your child may need, please call the office, and Mrs. Sandy can help you or get you connected with Mrs. Estrada.
Finally, we have our Christmas Party coming up. Please let me know if you would like to help organize a fun time for our kiddos.
Esta es realmente una época maravillosa del año, pero también está repleta de actividades que a veces pueden convertirla en la época más abrumadora del año. La próxima semana nuestros estudiantes tomarán el examen STAAR provisional. 4to grado tomará el examen de matemáticas el 10 de diciembre y el examen de inglés, artes del lenguaje y lectura el 11 de diciembre. Estas son evaluaciones muy importantes que nos ayudarán a medir el progreso y encontrar en qué debemos concentrarnos para seguir adelante. ¡El tiempo de prueba puede ser muy estresante! Es muy importante que los estudiantes estén en la escuela todos los días para ayudarlos a sentirse seguros de poder desempeñarse bien. También es muy importante centrarse en la salud y el bienestar de los estudiantes en casa. Una cosa con la que lucha el cuarto grado es la somnolencia. Ayúdenos asegurándose de que su hijo descanse bien cada noche. Además, los estudiantes presentarán su obra navideña el miércoles 11 de diciembre a las 6:30 pm. Sé que han trabajado muy duro durante todo el semestre y están ansiosos por actuar para ustedes. 4th & 5th Grade MATH
-In 4th grade math, we have started working on fractions. We are reviewing what are fractions,
finding equivalent fractions, and simplifying them. We will be on this unit for a while. Fourth graders will only add and subtract fractions with common denominators, compare them and find them on a number line. It will not get that torturous for them but knowing their multiplication math facts comes in handy, especially when simplifying fractions.
-In 5th grade, we also started working on fractions. They will review to get equivalent fractions, simplify them, and add and subtract them. However, in 5th grade we do add and subtract but we will need to find common denominators and they will multiply and divide fractions, too. Fifth grade will stay a little longer on the fractions unit because they have more to learn than 4th grade. I usually let them wrap up the unit with a fun recipe to head on out to Christmas break.

MATEMÁTICAS de 4to y 5to grado -En matemáticas de 4º de primaria hemos empezado a trabajar las fracciones. Estamos repasando qué son fracciones, encontrando fracciones equivalentes y simplificándolas. Estaremos en esta unidad por un tiempo. Los estudiantes de cuarto grado solo sumarán y restarán fracciones con denominadores comunes, las compararán y las encontrarán en una recta numérica. No será tan tortuoso para ellos, pero conocer las tablas de multiplicación resulta útil, especialmente al simplificar fracciones. -En 5º de primaria también empezamos a trabajar las fracciones. Repasarán para obtener fracciones equivalentes, simplificarlas, sumarlas y restarlas. Sin embargo, en quinto grado sí sumamos y restamos, pero necesitaremos encontrar denominadores comunes y también multiplicarán y dividirán fracciones. El quinto grado permanecerá un poco más de tiempo en la unidad de fracciones porque tienen más que aprender que el cuarto grado. 5th has started working on sedimentary rocks and how they are formed!
Both are having so much fun!
4to y 5to: El día 4 está trabajando en Season y todo lo relacionado con la inclinación de la tierra. ¡El quinto ha comenzado a trabajar sobre rocas sedimentarias y cómo se forman! ¡Ambos se están divirtiendo mucho!
