Leavers
This week, as we bid a heartfelt goodbye to our Year 6 Leavers, we also extend our best wishes to several cherished staff members embarking on new chapters in their lives.
This year, we are saying farewell to:
Ben Hobbs, our Deputy Headteacher. Ben has been fundamental in shaping our culture of teaching and learning. Over the past three years, he has led the English department and driven a passion for reading throughout the school. Ben's efforts have brought numerous "wow" moments and opportunities to our pupils, including Ukulele classes and Martial Arts. His contributions will be deeply missed.
Jo Bond, our SENCo, is known by the children as kind, honest, and lovely. Jo has an exceptional ability to understand each pupil as an individual. Her impact in improving systems to support pupils with SEND has been profound. The choir will certainly miss her guidance and enthusiasm.
Katie Stephens, who has been with us for seven years, has left a significant mark through various highlights such as sunflower growing, trips, science fairs, and street parties. Pupils describe Katie as ambitious and caring. Her dedication and vibrant presence will be remembered fondly.
Naomi Goode started her journey with us when our current Year 6 were in Reception. She has witnessed their growth over the years while leading phonics and fostering a love for reading. Naomi is moving on to an EYFS Leadership role, and we are proud to see her grow and make an impact in a new setting.
Gareth Johnston is described by pupils as kind, engaging, and funny. His "Drop Everything and Read" sessions are some of our favorites, filled with expression and heart. Despite his short time with us, Gareth has made a lasting impact and brought warmth and soul to the team. He will be dearly missed.
Bryony Wells, who runs our keyboard group, brings sunshine to our preschool. Families speak highly of her, and we can't wait to see her continue to flourish in her next school. We wish her all the best.
Kirsty Smith has shown determination and a passion for sports, getting to know pupils on an individual level. Although she has only been with us for a year, Kirsty's presence will be missed. We wish her and her family all the best in their new chapter.
Dan Sanders has been exceptionally generous with his time, dedicating it to inter-school sports fixtures and opportunities. Dan has built brilliant relationships with his class and will be sorely missed.
Gemma Conway is known for her super smiley, warm, and gentle nature. Pupils adore her, and her kindness has touched many. We will miss her bright presence.
As we say goodbye, we celebrate the contributions and impact each of these wonderful individuals has had on our school community. We wish them all the very best in their future endeavors.

Selfless Superstar
Over the last 2 weekends Jackson in Year 3 has volunteered for FORCE cancer charity. First he handed out medals at the Nello bike ride and he helped his mum this weekend to drive around Cranbrook and deliver cream teas.
He's always willing to help and he selflessly gave up some of his weekends to help! Well done Jackson, you're a superstar and we are all very proud of you.
Awesome Achievements
Well done to Aubrey and Autumn in Year 3 for their achievements in dance and a 4K run for charity. You did a great job girls! Keep it up.
Footballs Finest
Charlie, Alfie, Issac and Jackson took part in a football tournament last weekend and were all awarded with a golden medal for their efforts and sportsmanship. Well done boys!
Well done to Jake Skinner, Alfie Clark, Ted Scott-Hake, Peggy Chapman, Henry Anderson and Scott Godfrey for competing in Tournaments with their football team, Rockbeare Rockets Under 8's. The team have shown great teamwork skills and resilience and in their last tournament made it to the 1/4 finals. We are very proud of them all.
Go Isaac!
Congratulations to Isaac who won the BMX southwest Male 10s. He fought hard to gain this win and we are all proud of him. He was also successful in Birmingham for the last round of the National series where he came 12th on day one and 15th on the second day, making both finals. He was extremely pleased with this result in his first year racing national level and next year he will be aiming for a top 14 position so he will be in a qualifying position for the world championships in Australia! Go Isaac!
Celebrating Mr Clarke
Our wonderful Mr Clarke has worked incredibly hard dedicating his time to after school clubs and providing additional sporting opportunities for our children this year. Here are some of the children who have enjoyed his football clubs this year! Thanks Mr Clarke you’re amazing!
Club sign ups for the Autumn Term are already in full swing and families will receive sign up information later this week.

Work with Us
We are seeking to appoint a Business Administrator to work in the main reception area of the campus. Applicants must have excellent communication and administrative skills, have a proven ability to work under pressure and be able to maintain a high level of accuracy whilst meeting deadlines. The postholder must be confident in dealing with enquiries from parents and members of the public.
CEC Careers
Do you work for a business who is invested in future careers? Do you enjoy speaking with young people and igniting a spark? Is the thought of copious amounts of tea and biscuits a deal breaker? Well look no further! We are really excited to announce that we are hosting our annual careers fair on Wednesday 13th November and this year we want to be bigger than ever. Please share this flyer with any business contacts you may have and email careers@cranbrook.education if you are able to be a part of finding your future workforce.
Ofsted Report Published
We are delighted that our #Crantastic Ofsted report has been published and celebrated by both Devon Live and the Mid Week Herald.
CEC Expansion Works
Work is already underway between Devon County Council and the Tedd Wragg Trust to plan for increasing secondary age pupil places at CEC. The initial phases of the expansion will see enlargement of the dining area and the final wing brought into use as fully equipped teaching space. Designs for the later phases of CEC's expansion are also in the early stages. However, this is taking place well in advance of when it will be needed, to try to ensure timely delivery in the future.
Cycling to school
A polite reminder to families that cycle or scoot to school that these should not be ridden anywhere on site. We ask please for you to dismount from your bike / scooter at the school gates and use the shelters provided. Thank you
Year Group Updates
Nursery Update
Wow what a wonderful year we have had in nursery, we have really enjoyed getting to know all your lovely children and their families. We have grown such a amazing bond with you all, but their time has come to move onto preschool in September. We will miss you all so much, thank you for all your kindness and lovely gifts we have received. We really can’t believe how quickly this year has gone, I’m sure your children will thrive in preschool. For the ones staying with us we look forward to welcoming you back on Thursday 5th September. Have a lovely summer! Mrs R, Mrs P, Miss Wood and Ms Ng.
Preschool Update
What a wonderful and busy last week in Preschool! First of all, thank you so much to everyone who attended our Mini Graduation. You all did amazing with your performance! It was so lovely to see you all there and we hope you all had lots of fun! We have had an exciting week preparing our song for the Mini Graduation and the children have enjoyed the jobs they have been given by the adults such as washing up plates and cutlery from the mud kitchen ready for September. We have also loved working on our fine motor skills; drawing giant pictures on paper outside and tracing letters in our mark making. In Maths, we have been looking further into using the comparison phrases such as ‘smaller than’, ‘bigger than’, ‘greater than’ and ‘less than’. This was practiced through ordering number cards into the correct order of size. In Rhyme time, we decided to end the year with one of our favourite rhymes ‘Mary, Mary, Quite Contrary’. As our year comes to a close, we just wanted to say that we are all so proud of the progress you have all made. It has been a pleasure to teach every one of you and we hope you keep on shining as you continue your learning journey. Please don’t forget that for those starting in Reception in September, you start back on Wednesday 4th September. For those who are staying for another year in Preschool, you start back on Thursday 5th September. We hope you all have a wonderful and exciting Summer holidays and we cannot wait to hear about what activities you have done when we’re back in September.
Reception Update
What an absolutely amazing final week Reception have had! We have read many stories linking to transitions and shared our feelings about the upcoming move to Year 1. The children have discussed what they are looking forward to, as well as reflected on their wonderful year in Reception. The children were extremely excited for the well-earned party day! They got busy making crowns and other accessories ready for the big event.
The Reception Team would like to thank all parents and carers for the amazing support, cooperation and kindness you have showed us throughout the year, we really appreciate it!
Year One Update
Wow what a #CRANTASTIC last week in Year 1! Although disappointed with the weekend's football result, we wanted to cheer up the England team by sending them motivational letters! Lots of children decided to write to our local superstar Ollie Watkins and Miss Mylles will be sending all the letters off to the players - fingers crossed we might get a response!
In Maths we continue our focus on date and time and have thoroughly enjoyed making calendars to help us keep track of the months of the year. We have been talking lots in Science about being safe in the sun and as the weather is getting hotter the children should be able to inform you all about this.
Year 1 have been talking about moving on, transition to Year 2 and the future and we have enjoyed looking back on out time together in Year 1. We have had to say some goodbyes this week as leaving us is the fantastic Mr Johnston. The children have all worked hard to show the PERKS of being kind by making him cards to take with him and we will miss him greatly. We wish him all the best! Have a wonderful summer and thank you for the immense support you have given the team this year!
Year Two Update
Well done everyone on your hard work over the year, we have been so proud to teach you. We hope that you have enjoyed Year 2 and have made many happy memories and have learnt lots of amazing facts.
Finally… Sunflower competition - we hope you have enjoyed looking after and watching your sunflower grow. Thank you to those who sent in photos of how well they are growing.
The winner is … Oliver Conibere
Other wonderful sunflower photos include Parker and Teddy! Well done all who took part!
Have a wonderful Summer holiday, be safe and have lots of fun.
Best Wishes Year 2 team
Year Three & Four Update
This week in years 3 and 4 this week many children have been finishing our letter writing in English. We have been learning how to create a piece of persuasive writing to include emotive language and rhetorical questions. Many of the children wrote to Ms Gandhi and Mr Farmer to request longer weekends and longer movement breaks!
We cannot quite believe how quickly this school year has gone. We’ve had some incredible moments and have loved teaching, supporting and caring for all of the children across our phase.
We would like to wish you all a fantastic summer, make incredible memories and we look forward to welcoming you back in September as our new Year 4 and 5 children!

Year Five Update
How has this year gone so quickly?!
Year 5 have had a brilliant final week in school this week. We have made smoothies to finish off our DT project, written diaries and newspaper articles as part of our English work, completed our volume and capacity unit in Maths, learnt to use the phrase "many" and "a lot of" in Spanish and done many many more things.
When reflecting on our year of aspirational learning and opportunities, Year 5's favourite moments included: the Year 5 sleepover, Haven Banks and Sports Day!
We would like to take this opportunity to say thank you to everyone in Year 5 for all of your hard work and support this year. We have loved watching you all make so much progress and grow in confidence. Have a well deserved break this summer and we will see you back at CEC in September!
Year Six Update
What an amazing year this has been for Year 6. We would like to thank everyone who has supported Year 6 across this year. We have done so many wonderful things, from the residential to our end of year productions. Thank you to everyone who came to celebrate with us during our graduation. It was so lovely to come together and share our successes. As our pupils move into Year 7, we would like to wish them the very best of luck and every future success. Well done!
An exciting opportunity for our and upcoming new Year Sevens! It is time to get your pen out and get creative. Once you have read your transition text get scribbling away and create your own piece of innovative fiction.

Move More Cranbrook
Move More Cranbrook is the Sport England funded grants programme for Cranbrook. They are currently running their local active lives survey which you may have seen before. They do this every year and it’s really important that as many Cranbrook residents take part as possible.
The information gathered from the survey is used to tell us how active you are and whether the things that the programme has funded in Cranbrook are working. This survey is also the chance for Cranbrook residents to have their say about what sort of things they’d like to do to help them to be active in the future. It doesn’t matter whether you do no activity or a lot - all responses are anonymous but very, very helpful.
The survey takes about ten minutes to complete and can be accessed online here: ECC014 LAL 2024 Online_Cranbrook (snapsurveys.com)
Paper copies are also available in reception.
Thank you so much.
