Hi all,

As always, hope you all are having a great week! I wanted to share this quote with you from Mark Davis, the Director of Maintenance and Operations here at APS. This is why we run the Green Stars Program and why I enjoy working with all of you! Thank you so much for what you do and for working with our students to promote energy conservation and environmental education at our schools. As you'll see in the Dashboard Kiosk below, costs really do add up over time and through your student-led efforts, our students can become empowered to be the change-agents at their school.


Speaking of students, I had some great conversations with our district's 8th graders this week at the CareerTrek event, Monday and Tuesday at the PLCC. Many of them weren't aware how much money is spent to keep the lights on and computers running at our schools... So on that note, it's Friday tomorrow, which means it's a great opportunity to get a jump start on saving electricity over the weekend. Please remind fellow teachers and staff to completely turn off, shut down, and unplug those computers, appliances, lights, etc. The "OFF" switch is there for a reason!

1. Please continue to send updates, pictures, and agendas of your groups. This is the ONLY way to earn green stars!


2. Consider making a video to get the word out at your school to reduce energy use:

3. The Greenlight is on Alpine Waste and Recycling this month! With November around the corner, we are going to switch gears a little to incorporate food waste and recycling into our energy efficiency actions and conversations.

Community Clean Up with AWCPA

The 9th grade Student Leadership team took the lead to clean up trash around their school and neighboring streets this week near Florence Street. Thanks for the hard work, Leadership team!

Elkhart Students "Tumble" into Composting

The Green Leaf Club at Elkhart built a demonstration compost tumbler this week to educate their fellow students and teachers about compost. Pretty soon they will be making their own dirt for their school garden! Way to own it, Green Leafs!

Rangeview students partner with FBLA Club to Go Green!

Rangeview students have partnered with members of the FBLA Club to continue their momentum to make the high school more green. They plan to have a "green food" bake sale to help raise awareness about going green at the school. Not to mention, earn a little green for their cause too! You're rock stars, Raiders!

AWCPA Attends Keystone Water Camp

The core group of AWCPA's CHOICES club attended the Keystone Water Camp in Keystone, Colorado last week. Check out the H2O Camp video here

Century's Green Team: Making a list & Checking it twice!

Century students have a long list of going green goals for the school. Students have been working on educating fellow students and reminding teachers that going green means earning green in the Energy Challenge Competition!

Procedures for Classroom Temperatures!

Please keep an eye out for the arrival of Classroom Procedures for Temperature Monitoring. Here in M&O, we field, on average, 50 calls per day from teachers and staff about classroom comfort. We want to help your school earn money and promote efficiency. Working together, we can achieve both!

Greenlight On: Alpine Waste & Recycling

Alpine Waste & Recycling offers trash, recycling, and organics (compost) collection in the Metro area. Connect with Hanna Chaffer, our customer service representative to schedule an in-class presentation or a field trip to the new recycling center to find out where your school's trash and recycling end up!
