Note from the Principal
New Things Are Happening!!
Welcome Back, Boone Bears!!!!
The summer definitely flew by and everyone is quickly settling in to the new year routines. I have been excited to see how smoothly the start of the year has gone and how well everything is lining up for us. It is truly going to be another great year.
While you guys were enjoying your wonderful summer days, once again things have really been happening here at Boone!! The final touches are being made to our solar panels, we have had extensive foundation work completed around the perimeter of the building, and as a result have new sidewalks in many areas of the school. In addition, our kitchen has had major ceiling work and improvements to the drainage system. We have had a new partition installed in the cafeteria, new ADA bathrooms constructed in our Early Childhood pod, and a major upgrade to our school library. It has definitely been a busy summer.
Below are some reminders about our AISD Nutrition Guidelines I wanted to share with you. Please know that these are district level policies.
AISD Nutrition Guidelines
These are the AISD nutrition and food policies for this school year. We would appreciate your help in following these guidelines.
Food in the Classroom
Campuses may not serve/provide access to foods of minimal nutritional value (FMNV) and all other forms of candy at any time anywhere on school premises until the end of the last scheduled class. Exempt days no longer exist in the district Wellness Policy. Campuses should comply with the policy every day. We can no longer allow candy or other non-nutritional snacks for school parties, etc.
Birthday Celebrations
Parents may bring items to celebrate their child’s birthday; however, they cannot be provided to students in the cafeteria during meal service times. In addition, since campuses may not serve/provide access to foods of minimal nutritional value (FMNV) and all other forms of candy at any time anywhere on school premises until the end of the last scheduled class, all birthday celebrations and treats will not occur or be provided until the very end of school that day.
School Lunches
A parent can only bring lunch to their own student. You may not bring lunch to students who are not your children. Food or beverages cannot be provided to students anywhere on campus 30 minutes before to 30 minutes after meal serving times.Important Information About Student Pick Ups
To ensure the safety of our students, any individual picking up a student from school must be on their contact list as an approved pick up. We are not able to accept verbal requests by phone or emails from parents to allow their child to be picked up by someone who is not on their contact list.
Students being picked up early for the day will need to be signed out in the office. In addition, students who are not picked up during dismissal hours, will be brought to the office. The parent or approved contact will need to provide their ID to complete signing out the student.
Parents who wish to add or delete someone on their child's contact record will need to come into the office with their ID and complete a form to make the change.
For questions about your child's contact record, please contact our registrar, Marisa Garza at marisa.garza@austinisd.org or by phone at 512-414-5313.
We greatly appreciate everyone's cooperation to ensure the safety of all our students!
Thank you.
Student Meal Accounts and Free/Reduced Meal Benefits
Parents are able to add money to their child's meal account online at schoolcafe.com or by downloading the school cafe app to their mobile device. Families interested in participating in the free or reduced meals program may apply online using the school cafe website or mobile app. Paper applications are also available in the office.
*Reminder - A new meal benefits application must be submitted each school year for those interested in participating in the free or reduced meal program. Only one application is needed for the entire household.
To expedite the approval process of a new meal application, we highly recommend that families submit the information online.
Instructions on how to create your child's meal account through school cafe are attached in the body of the email.
Also, the district is not providing printed menus for the schools. You can access the monthly menu on the school cafe website or the mobile app.

Welcome back Boone Bears! We are so looking forward to connecting with you in hopes of elevating our school community to a new level this year. We already can’t wait to see what’s in store!
In the past years, your PTA has helped provide new playground and grounds enhancements, library updates and we assisted in implementing a garden and outdoor learning space that provides our children the opportunity to learn how to grow vegetables and live more sustainably.
This year, we are excited to help unveil our Refreshed Library, celebrate Mickey Mouse’s 90th birthday, honor our veterans, “Go on a Bear Hunt”, and bring our community together for the Fall Festival and Spring Carnival. Boone has also been chosen to participate in the Monarch Heroes Program this year! We will also continue to partner with local businesses that will host Spirit Nights. This is a win-win all around as proceeds are donated to the school, local businesses are supported, and that’s one less dinner you have to cook and clean up after. Every bit of financial support enhances the educational experiences available to our children.
We would like to encourage you to join the PTA! Become a member, and through attending meetings and getting involved, you will have a say in the decision making and focus of this group. We will have a membership sign up table at Valentina’s this Friday, as well as in the entry of Boone starting next week. Stop by - we’d love to meet you!
Open communication and transparency are essential for our shared success. Stay tuned for more information regarding member access to a Google Drive where you will find budgets, financial goals, spending records, and a working calendar.
If you have any questions, please contact PTA president Sherina Warstler @ booneptapresident@gmail.com
This is going to be another GREAT year,
