Meet Our Security Team
Shared also in an email to families on 9/4/24
School safety is one of our top priorities in the School District of New Berlin. We consistently review and revise our safety plans and protocols in an effort to provide the safest learning environments possible for all students. Additionally, we have safety measures in place after school when our buildings are open to the public for sporting events, concerts/performances, meetings, practices, and more.
Over the summer, in an effort to enhance safety throughout the district, the bell and public address systems at all schools were upgraded. The new systems will provide improved alerts and communications options in the event of an emergency. Additionally, this school year all elementary schools will have the presence of a security guard throughout the school day. The security personnel will patrol the schools and provide additional safety support in conjunction with the district’s school resource officers, who spend the majority of their day at our respective middle / high schools. They will support our staff and build relationships with students. We are lucky to have Mr. Eric (on the left in photo) and Mr. Tim (on the right in photo) here at Ronald Reagan! Both are retired law enforcement, and will alternate days throughout the week. They already are familiarizing themselves with our building and getting to know our students and staff.
Thank you for your attention to this and your continued support of our safety measures. If you have any questions, do not hesitate to ask.
Absences and Appointments and Early Pick-ups, Oh My!
We must hear from a parent/guardian regarding absences and appointments, late arrivals, and early dismissals or it will be UNEXCUSED (we can’t take student, sibling or neighbor reports for attendance).
There are a few easy ways to do this (listed in order of our favorites):
✔️Preferred method: Email
Please copy all of your student's teacher(s) and office staff on the same email for attendance or end-of-day changes. This lets us know that everyone has the same information. If you email, you don't need to call in or use the IC Absence Request.
Office staff: jennifer.macakanja@nbexcellence.org, kimberly.mckenna@nbexcellence.org, shelley.sukenik@nbexcellence.org
✔️Second choice: Attendance Voicemail
Call the attendance voicemail (262.789.6588) and leave your student's name, your name, relationship, and the reason for the absence. If it's an early pick up or end of day change, please call or email instead.
✔️Third choice: IC Absence Request
Infinite Campus Absence Request works best for arriving late, or half and whole-day absences. If you are picking up your student early, it's better to email the office and teacher.
*If you turn in a note from your student’s doctor’s office following a medical appointment with your student’s name and date/time of appointment, the absence will be medically exempt and not count against their attendance record.
MEDICATION/EPI-PENS/INHALERS/SEIZURE RESCUE MEDS:
DISTRICT POLICY: All medication for students must be brought to and from the office by an adult. The office can receive medication before school starting at 8am. Medication must be in the original packaging. No medication can be taken at school without proper paperwork. PLEASE DO NOT SEND MEDICATION WITH YOUR STUDENT.
💊 If your student needs to take medication/epi-pens/inhalers/seizure meds at school, authorization forms must be filled out for both prescription and over-the-counter medication.
COUGH DROPS & SUNSCREEN: must be kept at the teacher's desk with the Non-Prescription form filled out by a guardian.

We encourage all families to purchase the Optional Device and Display Replacement Plan for the 24/25 school year as it reduces the total of this repair charge for the first incident as well as covers lost or stolen devices.
