Treaty Acknowledgement
We acknowledge that Killam Public School is on Treaty 6 territory - the ancestral and traditional land of many Indigenous groups. We are grateful for the animals, the water and the forests that provide us with many resources we use each day. We are thankful for the diverse opportunities that this land offers. We respect the land in which we gather on today.

Principal's Message
What a great week of Track and Field! Our junior high students worked hard and had great results at the Divisional Track meet on Tuesday. You can read the highlights in the athletics section below. We are excited to see what they do at Regionals! Yesterday was a cool and blustery track and field day for our elementary students. Thanks to Mr. Bailey, Miss. Nielsen, Mrs. Child, Mrs. Brodie and our junior high crew for ensuring the day ran smoothly. We are so proud of our elementary students who came out and did their best despite the weather. Thanks to all the family members that were able to come out and cheer the kids on. Extra thanks to Justin and Dawn for their great BBQ skills - we appreciate you volunteering!
As you have probably already seen from Battle River School Division’s media releases on May 15 and May 24, school divisions are dealing with some significant cuts. These cuts have affected our staffing and we have made difficult decisions about classes and staff in our school. Unfortunately, Mr. Bailey and Miss Andersen will not be returning to KPS next year as we have had to cut teacher time to meet our current instructional budget. They will be greatly missed as they have had such a positive impact on our staff, students and families. We are so grateful to have had the opportunity to work with them.
For 2024-25, our staff will be:
Mrs. Freadrich - Kindergarten
Mrs. Borgel - Grade 1
Mrs. Brusse-Paterson - Grade 2
Mrs. Pedersen - Grade 3
Ms. Gibb - Grade 4/5
Ms. Armitage - Grade 5/6
Junior High:
Mrs. Antos - Science and PE
Mr. Gratrix - ELA & Options
Miss Nielsen - Math, Social Studies, Options
**Grade 7/8 will be a split class
We have worked hard to ensure that we are prioritizing student learning while working within the current budget. Class lists for Grade 4/5 and 5/6 are a collaborative effort between staff and will be available on August 27. More information and rationale for grade configurations will be shared at the Parent Council meeting on Tuesday, June 4 at 7 pm.
First Ride Program
The First Ride Program allows Kindergarten students and their parents an opportunity to learn about bus safety, as well as take a ride on a school bus. This will be held at the Killam School on Tuesday, June 11, 2024 from 6 to 7 p.m.
National Travel Trip
Our Junior High Travel Club is in the early stages of planning a trip to Montreal, Quebec City, and Ottawa during Spring Break 2025! The dates for the trip are March 22-28, 2025. This trip is open to students currently in Grades 6-8. If you would like more information about the trip or are interested in registering your child, please contact Ms. Nielsen at cnielsen@brsd.ab.ca.
