Nicollet & Sibley County Ag News
October 2024
Educator to You
Happy October!
Harvest has started for many crop farmers in Nicollet and Sibley Counties which means slow moving tractors and machines on the roads. It is important to be aware of your surroundings at all times, pass slow moving equipment with caution and leave a little extra time in your commute.
October is also National Pork Month! Did you know that Minnesota is ranked #2 in the US for the number of pigs raised? The Minnesota Pork website has some great resources and recopies available. Check it out at https://www.mnpork.com/.
Best wishes!

Fire prevention tips during harvest from ISU Extension
Harvest season has started across most of the state and according to the latest U.S. Drought Monitor, the majority of the state is abnormally dry with pockets of moderate drought in northeastern and southwestern Minnesota. These abnormally dry conditions could enhance the potential for combine and field fires this fall.
Managing future floods and droughts in Minnesota
Floods and droughts are becoming more common and more severe in Minnesota as our climate warms, posing significant challenges across a variety of sectors and industries.
This year, the University of Minnesota Climate Adaptation Partnership (MCAP) made available detailed future climate data for communities across the state — allowing users to view projections for variables like precipitation and snow cover at a 2.5-mile scale.
