Budget Vote
05/20/2024
Dear Lewiston-Porter Community:
Budget Vote and School Board Election
We would like to remind you that tomorrow, Tuesday, May 21st, is the annual school district budget vote and school board election. We encourage all eligible voters to come to the district community resource center between 7 am and 8 pm to cast their votes. This year, three candidates—Steven J. Tarnowski, Sara Ohanessian, and Tessa Connelly—are running for two open 3-year terms on the school board. Voters can vote for up to two candidates. Your participation in this important process is highly encouraged.
Additionally, tomorrow, from 3 pm to 7 pm, in conjunction with the budget vote and board election, the Niagara County Health Department will be available to provide information and support materials for several public health-related programs. These include building an emergency disaster safety kit, immunization information, health education, and other NCDOH resources. Please stop by their table when you visit the community resource center tomorrow for the budget vote.
Student Travel Exchange
We are pleased to announce that we had an excellent turnout for our parent-student information session regarding the November 2024 student travel exchange. We understand that some interested students and families may have been unable to attend and would like to hold a second information night. The fall 2024 China travel and exchange program is scheduled for November 5, 6 - 17, or 18 (depending on airfare prices). The trip includes flying from Buffalo to Beijing, staying with host families in Tianjin, spending time in the International dorms at Tianjin Normal University, and touring major sites like the Great Wall, Tiananmen Square, and the Forbidden City. Eligible high school students (including 8th graders moving to 9th grade) can participate. To learn more, join us for an information meeting on Wednesday, June 5th, at 5:45 PM in the LPHS Library, or contact Mrs. Anika Fetzner at afetzner@lew-port.com or 716-286-7263.
School Supplies Collection Campaign for Ebenezer Nursery and Primary School, Tanzania:
We are also excited to update you on the Superintendent's Student Advisory Council’s dual-initiative school supplies collection campaign for the Ebenezer Nursery and Primary School in Tanzania, Africa. We are grateful for the donations received so far, with collection boxes filling up in both Middle and High Schools. Here’s how you can continue to help:
Drop-Off Supplies: We are collecting essential school supplies, including paper, pens, pencils, folders, and colored pencils. Please bring your donations to the collection boxes in the main hallways of our middle and high schools.
Sponsor a Backpack: Join the LP Family backpack sponsorship by signing up with this form to fill a backpack with school supplies for a student. Designated drop-off times will be available at the MS and HS after Memorial Day.
Thank you for your continued support and involvement in these initiatives. Your generosity and participation have a significant impact both within and beyond our school community. If you have any questions or need further information about these announcements, please do not hesitate to contact our school office. We look forward to your participation in tomorrow's budget vote and school board election.
Sincerely,
Paul J. Casseri,
Superintendent of Schools
