Awards Night
The GMSE Awards Night letters of invitation will be going out via US Mail to those students who qualify (3.5 GPA and above). Our awards are given out on May 9, 2024 at Peace Lutheran Church. We will have three separate events, one for each grade level.
- 6th Grade: 4:30 - 5:30 PM
- 7th Grade: 6 - 7 PM
- 8th Grade: 7:30 - 8:30 PM
Peace Lutheran is located on the corner of Clark State and Hamilton Roads (455 Clark State Rd, Gahanna, OH 43230). We will be in the Connections Center towards the back of the building, there is plenty of parking if you enter the lot from Clark State road and following the drive back and to the left of the building, just past the entry for the Connection Center.
School Supplies for the 2024-25 School Year
I know that it is hard to believe, but it is time to start thinking about the 2024-25 school year! We have our school supply list ready to go and our Yubbler (on-line ordering) account is also up and running as well. You are welcome to use the supply list to shop between now and the start of the school year OR you can use Yubbler to place your order.
Yubbler will deliver your supplies right to your home and the GMSE PTA shares a portion of the profit. Acting quickly through Yubbler will also provide families with a discount
- April orders: 20% off core items
- May orders: 15% off core items
State Testing Schedule
State Testing is HERE. Please make sure that your child gets a good night of sleep and a healthy breakfast prior to school on these days! They are ready...!
Chromebooks MUST BE FULLY CHARGED!
Here are the dates:
- April 18: Math Testing Day #1
- April 19: Math Testing Day #2
- April 23: 8th Grade Science Testing
It is important every day, but these in particular. Students MUST have a fully charged chromebook when they arrive to school for testing.

eWaste Recycle Event at GMSE
The House of Tatonka is hosting an upcoming event at Gahanna Middle School East in order to honor their holiday…Earth Day!
On Wednesday, April 24th after school, East families are invited to participate in an E-Waste event! This event allows families to recycle electronic waste that otherwise is more difficult to dispose of. The waste will be collected here at school and Green Wave will come pick it up. Examples of e-waste are included below:
Batteries (All Kinds..alkaline, Li-Ion, Ni-MH, etc...)
*Computers / laptops
Calculators
Wires/ Cables/ Cords
Keyboards
DVD players
TVs
Telephones
Computer mice (and more… here is a complete list of acceptable items)
If you are interested in recycling e-waste from our list of acceptable items, please send items to school with your student on 4/24 OR drive by East anytime from 3:45-4:30 on Wednesday, April 24th. A drive through will be set-up to accept your e-waste.
*Green Wave indicates that they are an R2 Certified facility that conforms with the United States Department of Defense Standard DOD 5220.22-M for data destruction. We are audited yearly to this standard. All drives are either wiped in our facility or sent to an R2 Certified downstream vendor for shredding.

The 30th Annual Fitness Fundraiser
Our annual Fitness Fundraiser is coming up on May 2, 2024! A couple of reminders for the day of 5/2:
- Students should bring a water bottle
- Student will receive a new tee shirt and should wear that shirt on 5/2
- Students should wear athletic gear including athletic shoes (and no, crocs are not athletic shoes, even if they are in 'sports mode'!)
- No book bags or chromebooks are needed on this day
- Students will be participating in a tug-of-war contest. They may want to bring gloves to protect their hands and cleats for extra traction.

ACE ELA is beginning our whole class mystery novel: And Then There Were None! This will likely feel challenging, especially in the beginning.
All math students will be taking the Math OST on Thursday and Friday. Please remind your student to charge their Chromebook on Wednesday and Thursday night, as well as go to bed at a reasonable time so they are prepared for the test!
8th Grade Update
COMING SOON- “Shadowing Day” is April 25th! If you need help finding a placement for your student, please reach out to your student’s ELA teacher ASAP. Permission slips were due APRIL 5th! 8th grade science teachers are looking to collect any empty 2 Liter bottles. Additionally, if you happen to have any chicken eggs and are interested in donating any, please contact Mrs. Mintz at mintzk@gjps.org Math State testing is coming up this week on Thursday and Friday. Please ensure your student is getting a good night of sleep and charging their chromebooks the night before to best prepare for these important testing days!
