Senior Celebration Boat Cruise!
Ahoy, seniors! Tuesday, May 21, 2024 is our Senior Celebration Boat Cruise exclusively for our graduating students. This event is designed to provide a safe, drug and alcohol-free event to celebrate the conclusion of the students’ education in District 220. We will have an exclusive all-ship charter on the Odyssey for the evening for BHS students and chaperones. All students are required to ride the buses to and from Navy Pier. Students need to report to the BHS gym by 9:30pm on the night of the cruise and will return around 3am. The cost of the cruise is $70 per person. Tickets are available for purchase until May 3rd on the BHS website, at tinyurl.com/SeniorBoatCruise2024.
Capstone Day Information
Beginning this Spring, as we look to wrap up the semester we wanted to allow all classes to wrap up and to re-emphasize the importance of attendance. Students should be physically present on these days for all rostered classes. The only periods students do not have to be in the building are for lunch or a scheduled open period.
ALL classes will meet to wrap up the semester in a way that aligns with the curriculum and expectations for the course. For example, Physical Education classes will meet, and students will participate in BFit activities and complete a checkout process. Resource classes and Academic Support classes will also meet to provide support to students in wrapping up the year. Some classes will have assessments, exams, or other academic work to complete.

Autism Acceptance Month
April is Autism Acceptance Month, formerly known as Autism Awareness Month. Autism Acceptance Month is meant to highlight the issues affecting people with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and their families, educate the public on support services, and celebrate and destigmatize the perspectives of those living with ASD.¹
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), 1 in 36 children in the United States had been identified as having ASD as of April 2023.² Given the prevalence of ASD, encouraging education, providing resources, and working to remove the stigma of autism becomes all the more important.
As it has been for the last several years, the theme for Autism Acceptance Month 2024 is “Celebrate Differences.” This theme was created to promote acceptance and provide connections to necessary support and resources.
MAY 6 – 17: SNACKS FOR STUDENTS TAKING AP EXAMS
Students taking AP Exams are not allowed access to their backpacks, and if they are taking multiple tests or have an accommodation, that can mean several hours without anything to eat or drink. For the past several years, the PTO has covered that gap by handing out snacks and water. If you’d like to help out, VOLUNTEER HERE
Can’t volunteer during the day but would like to pitch in so kiddos aren’t hungry while taking AP Exams? Funds DONATED HERE are used only for AP Exam snacks.
MAY 13: Next PTO meeting is set for Monday, May 13th at 9:15am, AT THE DISTRICT 220 OFFICES (the building ACROSS THE STREET from the high school this time) or via Zoom.
FOR MORE INFO FROM THE April 8th PTO MEETING, go to the BHS PTO page for the meeting minutes and/or follow us on Facebook and Instagram.
MAY 15 is Senior Decision Day! PTO members will be distributing snacks and helping with fun photo opps, with optional college or military branch flags.
Senior Parent Reminder: Seniors need to complete the FAFSA (or opt-out form) and the Exit Survey (coming soon) in order to graduate. Last finals for seniors will be on 5/20 and 5/21 for students who don’t qualify for SPURS, the waiver criteria available only to seniors.

See Something, Say Something
The safety of our students and staff is always our top priority and we commit to offering a safe
and secure educational environment. Barrington 220 is now partnering with an Illinois school safety helpline aimed at providing students a place to report information that might prevent bullying, suicide, and campus violence. Safe2Help is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. It allows students to confidentially share school safety issues via a mobile app, text, email, or phone call. You will notice that the "See Something, Say Something" button on our district and school website now links directly to the Safe2Help contact page. We are asking that all students, parents, staff, and community members now use this platform to report safety concerns. In the case of an emergency, call 911.BARRINGTON HIGH SCHOOL
