Center School Chronicle

Center School Families,
The 2024-2025 school year is off to a wonderful start! Students embarked on building a strong classroom community by learning routines, reviewing expectations, and participating in team-building activities within their classrooms. Throughout the week, the classrooms have been radiating kindness and positivity. I was impressed by the exemplary conduct displayed by the students in the cafeteria and the hallways. Their respectful demeanor, excellent manners, and acts of kindness truly stood out.
The students at Center School have begun the year on a remarkable note, showcasing their ROAR behaviors with PRIDE!
A big thank you to the EHEPTO for supporting the back to school beautification of the Center School grounds!
With appreciation,
Chris
Grade Level Community Meetings
Fourth Grade
To finish our first week together, each grade level participated in a meeting to review all of the opportunities Center School offers, our ROAR expectations, set goals, and have some fun!
Our fourth-grader theme was Fresh Start Ahead. The assembly focused on encouraging students to embrace the new school year with a positive mindset, setting goals, and building resilience. Students explored the importance of taking on challenges, supporting one another, and striving to be their best selves every day.
Throughout the presentation, our students were challenged to embrace kindness in their daily interactions and decisions. They were encouraged to understand the power of their words and actions in creating a positive and inclusive environment within our school community.
Congratulations to Mrs. Knapp, winner of the 4th grade staff challenge!
Fifth Grade
Our 5th-graders were challenged to Go Be Great. During the assembly, our students were encouraged to step into leadership roles, embrace their potential, and make positive choices as they navigate this important year. We explored what it means to be great—both in and out of the classroom.
As our 5th graders continue their journey, we're confident that they are well-prepared to take on new challenges, support each other, and make a lasting impact in our school community.
Congratulations to Mrs. Moody, winner of the 5th grade staff challenge!
Building Our Community
To start the year, Center School focuses on building our community on the bus, at lunch and recess, in classrooms, and as a grade level. Students had a very successful week in all environments! We look forward to continuing to celebrate their continued growth.

Drop Off and Pick Up Reminders
Thank you for making this process seamless in our first week!
Drop Off:
The front circle is reserved for buses and should not be used by families during arrival and dismissal.
End of Day Pick Up:
Please plan to park at the Congregational Church parking lot for afternoon pick-up. Proceed up the stairs to the Summit Street side of Center School and follow the walkway to the double doors. All students being picked up need to be signed out by the staff member on duty.
Center School Handbook
A digital sign-off for the Family Handbook & Acceptable Use of Technology will be in a separate ParentSquare post on Monday.
Attendance Matters!
If a student has four unexcused absences in one month or 10 unexcused absences in a year they are classified as truant. If a child misses 18 or more days in a school year – excused or unexcused absences – the student is classified as chronically absent.
Access to the East Hampton attendance policy is available HERE
Email process for reporting an absence:
To increase the ease of reporting an absence and documenting parent approval of the absence for a student’s first 9 absences, the East Hampton Public Schools has created email addresses that parents can use to contact their student’s school and report an absence. Effectively immediately, the following email addresses can be used by parents to report and document their approval of an absence:
- Memorial_Attendance@easthamptonct.org
- Center_Attendance@easthamptonct.org
- EHMS_Attendance@easthamptonct.org
- EHHS_Attendance@easthamptonct.org
If you have successfully emailed the school, you will receive an autoreply that notifies you that the absence communication has been received and recorded. This process is effective for your student’s first 9 absences. After your student has more than 9 absences, additional documentation or communication will be required to excuse the absence. Please use the email to continue to notify the school that your child will not attend. You may call your child’s school at any time to report an absence, as well.
