Principal’s Message
Dear Parents/Guardians,
It is with pleasure that we welcome the students and families of the Nolan Elementary School community to the 2022-2023 school year. Our staff is committed to ensuring an outstanding learning experience for all of our students as we support their development as scholars and citizens. We are dedicated to the success of each student.
We look forward to providing a 21st Century learning environment for our students. As we continue to ensure academic proficiency in our students, we will be developing the following key skills in our students: effective communication both orally and in written form; being innovative and creative; the ability to think critically; applying knowledge and skills to real-world settings, and work collaboratively with others. Your support and cooperation, along with our best professional efforts, will support our goal.
As we work together during the year, I encourage you to let me know how you and your scholars are experiencing school. Through open communication, teamwork, and a dedication to continuous improvement, we anticipate this will be a rewarding and enjoyable school year for the children.
On behalf of the staff, I look forward to working with you to provide each student with an outstanding learning experience. It is an honor to serve the Nolan community.
Sincerely,
Dr. Brown

Welcome Back, Nolan Family! We're happy to have you and your scholar partner with Nolan to ensure a successful school year. We know that you are just as excited to get your scholar off to a great start. You've purchased the school supplies and new outfits. You've attended Open House and now the school year has officially begun. Although we wish it were as simple as dropping your scholar off on Day One, ensuring their success doesn't end there. As parents, we're asking you to connect with your scholar's teacher to learn the expectations and learning goals for this year. If you are not connected to ClassDojo, please reach out and get connected as soon as possible. Your scholar's teacher will be posting a weekly update that will keep you informed about what is being taught in the classroom and ways you can support your learner at home. In addition to the weekly update, you can visit Fulton County Schools' Academics page for Parent Guides to each grade level. These guides highlight and explain what your scholar should know and be able to do by the end of the school year. Helpful tips on ways to engage your scholar and encourage their growth are also included. You can access this wealth of information at https://www.fultonschools.org/academics. Again, thank you for partnering with us to ensure your scholar's success!

Welcome Back to the House of LOVE!!
Ms. Dawson, K-2 Literacy Coach
Greetings K-2 Parents,
I am excited about the direction the county is moving with literacy instruction. Last year we began a professional development program entitled “The Science of Reading”. This body of research focuses on how children learn to read, the skills involved in reading, and which parts of the brain are responsible for ensuring children become proficient readers. With that in mind, the county has equipped teachers with instructional resources to support this research. According to the National Reading Panel, there are five pillars in reading development: phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension. Our teachers will use the following resources to address these pillars. Scholars in K-2 will be using Haggerty Phonemic Awareness, 95% Core phonics in grades K-3, Vocabulary Surge in grades 4 and 5, and the entire school, K-5 will be using Wonders for comprehension. With the professional development, training, and resources that have been deployed, our Nolan scholars are sure to blossom into amazing readers.

Greetings Nolan Family and welcome to the 2022-23 school year!
The teachers have hit the ground running with ELA instruction. Our third, fourth, and fifth-grade students have been reading stories and answering questions using Wonders (our new ELA curriculum). Our third graders are being introduced to the 95 Core Phonics program, which will help strengthen their phonics skills. Our fourth and fifth-grade scholars will be utilizing Vocabulary Surge to enhance their understanding of words. We are so excited to have these new resources.
Parents you can continue the learning at home by asking your scholars the following questions:
What story are you reading in class and what is it about?
What vocabulary words were introduced in the story and what do they mean?
What skill did you focus on today in reading?
Please reach out to your child’s teacher with any questions you may have.
