Term 4 Week 3 Tuesday 24th October 2023
Principals Message
Tēnā koutou Kokopu whanau
It has been a great start to term 4 with plenty of great learning and fun for the students.
I have had the pleasure of visiting classrooms and having lots of students come and show me their work including some amazing writers in room 1, fantastic readers in room 2 and listening to some very robust debates in room 6 about their elections study.
We have had plenty of students showing the school's values too. But of note this last week were Sloane and Jax who have gone out of their way to do some school tidying during After School Care and RJ who has started up his art club again on Tuesday at lunch times.
It was good to have the voting centre here on Ag Day and many voters came up to see what was going on and to buy a sausage. We know that with a change in government, there will be changes in education but because we have a strong team of teachers and staff at Kokopu School we are well placed to make the most of these changes.
Ag day was a big success again this year with good numbers of lambs, goats, calves and gardens. The introduction of chickens was a huge success and meant that overall there were 50 entries on the day. The creativity shown in the classroom crafts and activities was lovely to see. A big thank you to Bethany Gardens who donated flowers to the school and also had bunches available to purchase.
Production changes. We have decided to combine the junior and senior productions into one and do production every second year. So there will be no production in 2024.
We have made this decision because, as you will understand, production takes up a lot of time and effort and as we continue to grow we want to make sure that we are making the most of our learning time. Also, making sure that our support staff time is used effectively and keeping costs down.

Carpark Safety
We had a near miss in the parent car park last week. Please make sure you are picking your children up from the gate and not allowing them to cross the car park unattended. Please also be super careful with backing out and leaving kids in the car by themselves.
Sickness and Sores
We have had a few tummy bugs, strep throat and impetigo (School Sores) at school since the start of term. If your child has any of these they need to be well before returning to school. Impetigo can be easily treated with antibiotics which you can get directly from a pharmacy without a doctor's appointment. Covering sores once your child is on anti-biotics is essential.
Hats
Please ensure your child brings a hat to school every day. It is our policy that children wear hats while outdoors during Term 4 and Term 1.

Monday Tech Year 7 and 8. Technology classes at Manaia View School so please ensure your child is at school by 9am to catch the bus into Manaia View School. Thank you.
Friday Assembly. On Friday afternoon we have a sharing assembly at 2.30pm for the whole school. Parents are welcome to come along and see what the children have to share.
School Office. Vicki is in the office on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday. Bexs is in the office on Wednesday and Friday mornings until 11.35am. Vicki will be away from Thursday 12th October until Tuesday 24th October. Bexs will be covering for her.
Drink Bottles. Our water issues have be rectified but it would be good to send your child with a drink bottle full of water each day.
Carpark and gate. Please come to the gate in the carpark to collect your children at the end of the day. We do not want children walking through the carpark without an adult as it is unsafe with the amount of cars and limited parking. We have a teacher on duty at the gate each day to supervise. Can we ask parents and visitors to make sure they close the gates if you use them? We have a few children that may be prone to walking out an open gate. Thank you. Please don't park by the entrance gate or teachers carpark area. Also please avoid parking by the letterbox at the front of the school.
- Absences. A reminder that it is important to contact the school before 9.30am when your child will be absent. You can either phone, email or let us know via our Skool Loop app. We need to know where your children are so we know they are safe and can mark them correctly on the roll. See details in this newsletter on how to download our Skool Loop App.
- Iceblock Sales. Ice Blocks are for sale again to raise funds for the school. Many children who come to school with $2 like to buy their friend an ice block. Please could you send a note to say they are allowed to do this? The Room 6 children do ask but a note would be easier for them.
