Calling All Veterans & Active Service Members: Deer Hill School is inviting family members of our community who have served or are serving in the military to join us for our Veterans Day Assembly on Tuesday November 12th from 9:30 - 10:15. Deer Hill students would like to thank and acknowledge you for your service. Please RSVP using this Google form if you'd like to attend!

Grade 3 Lunch Update: On Wednesday I emailed grade 3 families to report that there was a miscommunication around our half day schedule and no hot lunch was available (just cold options). I was out of the building at the time, and upon further investigation, I learned that hot lunch was only delayed a few minutes and all 3rd graders had an opportunity to make a hot lunch selection. We greatly value the efforts of our Food Services department, and so it was important to me to set the record straight -- they do a fabulous job each day and pride themselves on the high quality of our offerings at breakfast and lunch (they are even introducing a fresh squeezed orange juice machine!)

Green Halloween: We love to support the community initiatives of our Cohasset High students. Please see this flyer from the CHS Green Team and consider donating unwanted costumes for a good cause!

Upcoming Spirit Days: We have three Spirit Days planned for October. Help your child shop their closet and join in the fun!

Thursday, October 31: Crazy Hat & Sock Spirit Day
Friday, November 1: Pajama Day (because we're just hazarding a guess that we may have some tired kiddos that day!)

Deer Hill Happenings

Student Advisory Council: Today a new batch of SAC reps from each class met with Superintendent Shannon to discuss two questions: What would you like Superintendent Shannon to know about Deer Hill? What would you like her to know about you? There are so many things to celebrate at Deer Hill (Deer Teams! our new play block! the garden! great teachers!) Students also candidly shared things they'd like to see improve (rough play on the football and soccer fields, not enough time to eat if you're last in line for lunch). Students also wanted her to know about them as individuals: they're readers, and sports fans, and friends. Superintendent Shannon was a thoughtful listener and loved hearing from Deer Hill students!

Grade 5 Spooky Science: What better way to delve into the grade 5 Properties of Matter unit than through a bit of spooky science? Grade 5 teachers each specialized in a spooktacular matter concept and hosted all 5th graders in science rotations over the two half days this week.

We Love Our Volunteers! Our STEAM lab was looking a bit more like that one closet that never gets cleaned rather than the learning space it's intended to be. That's when grade 5 teacher Mrs. Chapman stepped in and asked for some help. Many thanks to the following parent volunteers (and a few students) who lent their time to tame that space: Chandra Lombard, Julie Blanchard, Ashlee McClary, and Erin Gillis (who also helped organize some book sets in our library). It is so much more inviting!
