32nd Sunday in Ordinary Time Year B
The readings for the 32nd Sunday in Ordinary Time Year B challenge us to remember that all we have comes from God and to give generously. The first reading depicts a widow who shares her meager resources with Elijah and is rewarded with abundance. In the gospel, Jesus observes a poor widow who gives sacrificially from her poverty. These readings invite reflection on themes such as counting our blessings, charity, service, generosity, trust in God, giving our whole heart, examining what we are holding back, and avoiding comparisons and looking down on others.
First Reading – 1 Kings 17:10-16: Elijah asked a widow for water and bread. She had little but obeyed him. God provided enough flour and oil for them to eat for a year.
- Responsorial Psalm – Psalm 146: The Lord is faithful, just, and caring. He provides for the needy, frees captives, and protects the vulnerable. He will reign forever.
- Second Reading – Hebrews 9:24-28: Christ entered heaven, not a man-made sanctuary, and sacrificed himself once to remove sin. He will return to bring salvation to those who wait for him.
- Gospel – Mark 12:38-44: Jesus warned about the scribes’ hypocrisy and praised a poor widow who gave all she had, contrasting her true generosity with the surplus contributions of the rich.
Holy Fire 2024
Last Saturday, our 7th and 8th-grade Confirmation students attended the Holy Fire event in Chicago, beginning the day with a blessing from Father Michael. Alongside hundreds of young Catholics, they enjoyed worship, inspiring talks, and moments of powerful prayer, deepening their faith and readiness for Confirmation.
We extend heartfelt thanks to our chaperones—Grace Kim, Dan Kang, Christine Kim, Cecilia Shin, Cindy Chang, Kyounghee Yi, and Caritas Yoon for making this day possible and to our community for their prayers.
