SLE WEEKLY UPDATE February 10, 2023
Be East!
Good Afternoon,
We hope you had a fantastic week! Semester 2 is in full swing and we are already beginning to plan for end-of-year events such as graduation, honors night, and spring testing. As a reminder, Semester 1 Report Cards were posted in Skyward on Monday, February 6th. Report Cards can be uploaded or printed through the Skyward Portfolio page.
On Tuesday of this week, we had a "No Tardy Party" during lunches to celebrate 600 students who had zero tardies for the first semester. Thank you to all 600 students for being in class on time every hour, every day! Students received a small token of our appreciation and were entered into a special drawing for various rewards. Winners of the drawing are pictured below. Great Job!
On February 9th, staff and students were involved in our 3rd mandatory ALICE drill. The focus of the drill was to review protocols and options in the event of a dangerous intruder in the building. We want to thank our students and staff for their attention to this information as we take the safety of our East Cougars very seriously!
Parents and guardians, please remind your students that the window for submitting schedules opens today, February 10th and to please complete their course selections and turn in all paperwork on, or before, February 27, 2023. We will begin to build the master schedule soon and want to be sure we have accurate information regarding course requests. Please see below for helpful links if your student needs help with the course selection process.
Also, please also note that Mid-Winter Break is just around the corner. SLCS Mid-Winter Break is from February 18th through February 26th.
Have a fabulous weekend and Be East!

EAST SCHEDULING 2023-24 INFORMATION:
Registration season is an exciting time at East. Students get to engage in conversations with their teachers, counselors, families, and peers about the classes they would like to take next school year. These conversations often prompt students to reflect on their future plans and goals. We hope that you take this time to have thoughtful and productive conversations with students therefore creating schedules that are engaging and balanced.
The East counseling department is happy to support students and families on this journey!
Counselors will be available for extra scheduling support for students who have questions on Monday, February 13th during lunches in the Media Center.
Below you will find resources to help students make thoughtful course selections. Submission opens today, February 10 and closes March 1.

CAREER CLUB IS SEEKING PARENT VOLUNTEERS
South Lyon East High School Career Club is hosting the South Lyon Community Schools Career Fair event on Tuesday, March 14, 2023, from 6:00PM-8:00PM at South Lyon EAST High School Cafeteria/Commons. Any parent interested in sharing your career expertise with our high school students and families is welcome to be a career representative at this event. Other local career experts from a wide-spectrum of careers have also been invited. Students especially enjoy learning about what adults in the community do for work. This event allows students to interact with industry experts to expand their knowledge and peak their interest.
The SLCS Career Fair is open to all South Lyon Community Schools 9th-12th grade students and their families and aims to help students learn about different careers to further inform students’ career choices. This event is going to be held in an open-house format in which students can walk up to different tables and ask questions about careers. If you are interested in being a parent volunteer as an industry expert, please complete the RSVP form found at the following SLCS Career Fair RSVP link and reply no later than February 27th. Volunteers will be reviewed and accepted until we reach capacity in each of the career clusters listed on the SLCS Career Fair RSVP form. In addition, for the safety of our students, all volunteers are required to be pre-approved by our district. Please complete the form found at the SLCS Volunteer Form Link. Thank you for considering this opportunity to educate our youth!

Council members are selected based on their dedication to public service, their efforts in making a difference in their communities and their potential to expand their impact as national leaders for emergency preparedness. Members will also attend the council summit in July and engage with top leaders within FEMA, the federal government, and national non-profit organizations. All applications and supporting materials must be submitted no later than 11:59 p.m. PT, March 6, 2023. New council members will
