It is hard to believe that September is now upon us! Time is flying by. We have lots going on here at WHS in the days to come! Please do not hesitate to reach out if you have any questions or concerns! It is my sincere goal to work in partnership with you for the academic and social emotional success of our WHS students!

September Dates to Note:

  • MAP Testing - Grades 1-5, August 28- Sept. 15th
  • 9/7- Thursday, PTA Coffee, WHS All Purpose Room (A.P.R.), 8:40 - 9:40 a.m.
  • 9/8- Friday, Westlake Tailgate Party for Gr. 5- 8 Families 5-8pm.
  • 9/13-Wednesday,Picture Day at WHS!
  • 9/14- Thursday, EARLY RELEASE DAY, School ends at 1:15 pm.
  • 9/15- Friday, PTA Movie Night- The Smurfs Movie, Doors open at 6:15 pm.
  • 9/18- 9/29 Walk + Roll to School Weeks
  • 9/19- Tuesday, WHS PTA Mtg., LRC at 7:00 pm.
  • 9/22-Friday, - WHS PTA Run/ Walk on the WHS campus! 3:30- 7:00 pm.
  • 9/26 -Tuesday, C.A.P. (Child Assault Prevention) Parent Presentation- Park View School, 7-8 pm.

Coming Soon! "Star Constellations" at WHS!

On September 14th, we will begin our WHS Star Constellation program for this 2017-18 school year! The word constellation is defined in the following way:
This will be an exciting way for us to build relationships with students throughout the school! Stay tuned for more information.

MAP Testing in September!

Throughout September-- MAP Testing: All students in grades 1-5 will be assessed in the areas of math and reading using our computer- based MAP assessment. Students will either go to the computer lab, or test using Chromebooks in their classrooms. This is a district-wide assessment that we use to monitor student growth. The data from this assessment is used to identify students for either additional support or enrichment opportunities. MAP Assessment results will come home for your review prior to parent conferences in November.

Follow us on Twitter! The easiest way for you to have a window into the happenings at WHS is through the use of twitter. Simply search "#whs44" and you will see all the tweets connected to WHS. You may also choose to follow individual teachers or staff members. If you are interested in checking out happenings across the district, you can do so by searching "#WeAre44"


The use of Twitter is completely optional! Here in D44 and at WHS we believe that modeling the appropriate use of social media is helping our students along the path of digital citizenship. Please do not hesitate to ask if you have any questions!

Ga Ga Ball at WHS!

Ga Ga Ball is a tremendously popular game for our students at recess and both before and after school. (Thank you WHS PTA for bringing this to our playground!) Our PE Staff has taken the time to review the rules and expectations for this game. CLICK HERE to see the Ga Ga Bull rules at WHS!

Our First EARLY RELEASE DAY is coming soon!

Please mark the dates below on your calendar! Students will be dismissed at 1:15 pm on Early Release Days.
