Principal's Message
HTMS Community,
First and foremost, THANK YOU for making our Back to School Night event so special. We had over 350+ people show up, multiple community partners and resources in attendance and in general what felt like a very positive and supportive community environment. I also want to shout out Kemal Ishaq, our SUN coordinator, for helping arrange dinner for our community. It was great to have Whole Bowl as well as RJ Skillets, who is an HTMS family owned restaurant!
Please refer to the Back to School Night presentation if you were not able to make it and/or would like to reference the information provided during the event.
Our staff recently received professional development (PD) on Implicit Bias and we’re carrying that work with us into our Instructional Leadership Committee and Climate and Culture Committees.
We finished September with an assembly held by our Hispanic/Latinx affinity group, SOL, who did a fantastic job! Our student presenters as well as our students in attendance were respectful and supportive of one another. Afterwards, we finished the day celebrating Hispanic Heritage month by enjoying paletas outside.
I hope to see you all at our next Parent Teacher Student Association (PTSA) night on Thursday, October 17th from 6:00-7:00 pm!
Take care,
Principal

Site Council: Nominations by Wednesday, October 9th
HTMS PARENTS & GUARDIANS, ARE YOU INTERESTED IN JOINING SITE COUNCIL?
First things first: what is Site Council?
The site council is made of Principal Greer, teachers, staff and community members, plus parents/guardians of HTMS students. There are 4 parent/guardian spots currently open, which will be elected by the HTMS family community. No particular experience is required to serve beyond a commitment to the school. The site council benefits from a wide variety of voices.
What does the Site Council do?
The site council's purpose is to work together to identify ways to best support our students, in their academic learning, social-emotional wellness and sense of belonging at school. One of the main ways we do this is through making sure our School Continuous Improvement Plan (SCIP) continues to be relevant and responsive to student needs.
What's the time commitment?
Monthly meetings are from 4:15-5:30pm in the school library, plus the occasional training or feedback session.
I'm interested! What should I do next?
Please submit your name and a short bio through this nomination link by Wednesday, October 9th. An election email will be sent out on Oct 10th, with members determined by Oct. 14th. The first site council meeting will be Wednesday, October 16th in the school library at 4:15pm.

ID Badges
Per PPS policy, all students will be required to wear their school I.D. badge during the school day. We will supply lanyards and holders for all students. We will have a “soft start” to this policy until picture day on October 1st. Once students receive their new IDs, there will be no exceptions to the policy.
Code of Conduct Agreement
Harriet Tubman Middle School has several policies and expectations for our students and our Code of Conduct Agreement (CCA) outlines each of them. You will see expectations for students in regards to our general building expectations (A.S.K.), our attendance system (ASERT), behavior referrals and discipline ladder, cell phone policy, social media and attire expectations as well as our food policy.
Our goal is to create a safe and inclusive environment for all students. It is your responsibility to review our building expectations and to ensure both you and your student/s understand HTMS and PPS expectations and policies.

Schedules, and District Calendar
Bell Schedule 2024-25
PPS has worked to align middle school schedules through their middle school redesign process. This means that we will have a new bell schedule for the 2024-2025 school year. Monday, Wednesday and Friday will have the same schedule which includes an advisory period for 25 minutes to start the day. Advisory will be critical to setting up your student for success and it is an expectation that all students attend. Tuesday and Thursday will also see identical schedules, without advisory, which results in slightly longer class periods.
Daily Arrival & Departure
To ensure a smooth and efficient beginning and end to each school day, we want to remind you of our arrival and departure procedures.
Arrival Procedures:
- Doors Open: Students may enter the school building starting at 9:08 AM. This early entry time provides students with the opportunity to pick up a free breakfast, setting a positive tone for their day of learning.
- Classroom Readiness: The school day officially begins at 9:15 AM. To maximize instructional time, all students are expected to be in their classrooms, seated, and prepared to learn by this time.
- Late Arrivals: If students arrive after 9:15 AM, they will need to check in at the school office before proceeding to their classroom. This helps us ensure that all students are accounted for and ready to join their classes.
Departure Procedures:
- Dismissal Time: The school day ends at 4:00 PM. Students will be dismissed to go home at this time. Please ensure that arrangements are made for timely pick-up or transportation.
We appreciate your cooperation in adhering to these times as they help maintain a structured and productive learning environment for all students. If you have any questions or need further assistance, please feel free to contact the school office.
Thank you for your continued support and partnership.
