Scott Middle School's Motto- "We Enter to Learn and Leave to Achieve"
What Has Been Happening in Mrs. Farley's Classroom?
IXL has become a regular part of our routine. The first 15-20 minutes of almost every class is spent on IXL ELA - the students practice language arts skill on their level, these skills are aligned with our curriculum and PA State Standards. On Fridays I allow them to play games, of course the games are based on ELA skills. We have also incorporated Independent Reading. Students have chosen books and just like Bud, Not Buddy they are focusing on the main character’s traits and evidence to support their answers. Next month, which is coming so soon, I am going to introduce and incorporate DLR: Daily Language Review a review of ELA skills each day.
Bud, Not Buddy is still going well. The students are focusing on the question; what makes a survivor. We had to take a break so students could complete the CDT testing. CDT stands for Classroom Diagnostic Tools; this is a benchmark reading test. It was long and the students worked hard to do their best.
October Reward: We are working towards a class reward for the end of the month (movie and snacks). The students have asked if we are having a Fall Party – coming from elementary they miss these fun times. We are not having a party, but we will have fun as long as they EARN it. If any of you would like to donate snacks (individual bags popcorn or chips) and water/juice (individual as well) it would be much appreciated by the students and myself. I appreciate the support and cooperation thus far, and the communication between us has been amazing. As always feel free to reach out via phone 610-383-6946 or Email farleyp@casdschools.org .
