A. MacArthur Barr Mission Statement
Preparing and inspiring students to apply learning in a changing, complex, and interdependent world.
Curriculum & Instruction
Our Kids and Teachers Are Out Of This World Amazing!
Students in 5th grade were introduced to constellations, stars in the sky and used their background knowledge from the 5th grade science unit to have great discussions on why we have day and night (the rotation of the earth on its axis) as well as why we see certain constellations throughout the year during different seasons (earths revolution around the sun). Students got to feel a meteorite and look through the lens of Mr. John's telescope in the planetarium. Such a great experience!
Video Game Design Class
In Video Game Design class, students work together to generate an idea for a game and take it all the way to a final, playable product.
Come One - Come All
Students in Social Studies performed a WebQuest on Mesopotamia and the Indus River Valley. Students collaborate in teams to create advertisement posters based on those ancient civilizations.
A "Force" To Be Reckoned With
In Science, students measure force using a spring scale attached to various objects while recording, comparing and contrasting data.
Nanuet News
Here is the link to this weeks Nanuet News to be live active and live on Friday, November 27. The Nanuet News is created, recorded and edited by Mr. Garrison's Video Production students.
Extra Curriculars & Adventures at Barr
Finding Nemo is a Tidal Wave of Talent and Fun
Congratulations to the students and staff who made the Finding Nemo play a splashing success! Mr. Kronberg and his cast and crew of students and staff recreated a better than Broadway magical Finding Nemo play in front of a sold out audience. A huge shoutout and well done to everyone who put hours of work into this amazing play!
Learning the Science Behind Hydroponic Produce
Mr. Polizzi, Nanuet's Director of Teaching, Learning, and Innovation is a future thinker and always looking to enhance our schools with the most cutting edge equipment and technology.
Giacomo, an 8th grade student, stands in front of A. MacArthur Barr's newest addition, a hydroponic garden. Students germinated seeds and planted them into the device where water, filled with nutrients, runs continuously over the roots removing the need for soil. Students are tasked with monitoring water pH, balancing water hardness, maintaining appropriate nutrient levels, assessing health of plants, and ensuring all systems are running in unison.
