Dr. Barbara Wickham Unanimously Appointed as Assistant Superintendent of C & I
Welcome Dr. Wickham!
We are happy to announce that Dr. Barbara Wickham was unanimously appointed as our new Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction. Dr. Wickham has extensive experience as both an educator and school leader, and we welcome her to her new position.
Most recently. Dr. Wickham has served as interim Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction. Prior to that, she was the Director of Elementary Education in our division. Before arriving in Montgomery County, Dr. Wickham worked as the Director of Assessment for the Campbell County Public Schools. This was after spending 20 years in the Lynchburg School Division working as an elementary principal, technology lead teacher, and classroom instructor. Her educational experiences both within and outside of the Montgomery County Public Schools make Dr. Wickham an ideal candidate for this position, and we are fortunate to have her serve in this role.
We look forward to working with Dr. Wickham as she begins this next chapter of her educational career and cannot wait to see the positive impact she will have on the Montgomery County Public Schools.
February is Black History Month
Black History Month provides an opportunity to celebrate some of the diversity of our school community, which at its core, is one of our greatest assets. Since 1976, every American President has designated February as Black History Month and endorsed a specific theme. This year's theme is “Black Resistance,” which explores how African Americans have resisted oppression. Within each of the division's schools, activities and events will take place celebrating African Americans' contributions during our country's 247-year-long history. Please contact your child's school or visit their homepage for a list of some of those activities.
