The Weekly Update #4
August 25th, 2023
From the Desk of the Principal
Welcome to the new school year here at Inwood Primary. Our mission as the Shining Stars is Always Shining, Always Learning. Inwood Primary has served our community since 1925, when construction was completed in the late Fall of 1924. Although a small, traditional-looking school, inside, we have transformed into a front-runner in technology implementation and application among young learners in Berkeley County. We are Berkeley County's first Apple Distinguished School and the seventh in the state of West Virginia.
There are two great opportunities for you to be involved at Inwood Primary: the Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) and/or the Local School Improvement Council (LSIC). If you are interested in joining the PTO, we have our next meeting on Monday, September 9, 2024, at 5:30 PM. Being a part of the PTO is free, but we need volunteers to help. As for the LSIC, please complete the form below by Tuesday, September 3, 2024, to indicate your interest in joining. Although the LSIC are elected positions, we do not conduct an election until we have an abundance of individuals wanting to participate. LSIC meetings are virtual, and there are 5 throughout the year, lasting around 30 minutes each

We maintain allergen-free classroom environments throughout our school. Once we are properly made aware of students who have food allergies, we take precautions to maintain the safety of those students as it pertains to exposure to known food allergens. We do have students who have very severe reactions if they ingest or have contact with known food allergens, specifically students with peanut allergies. Student safety and well-being is my top priority. Our school lunches are peanut-free, and we offer special breakfasts and lunches from the cafeteria to students with the appropriate paperwork on file, including a health plan. If a student's parent packs peanut-type food products or other foods with known allergens, we mitigate during lunch and appropriately seat the children in the cafeteria. Students do not have assigned seats in the cafeteria, and we may choose seating for any student during lunch. As a reminder, I ask that we all work together and provide the safest environment possible by avoiding having peanut and peanut-type foods in the cafeteria.
A Few Reminders:
- Remember always to have identification when picking up your child during car rider or instructional time.
- The tardy Time for K-2 is 8:45 AM.
- The tardy Time for PK is 8:05 AM.
- Please send a parent note when your child is absent or complete the online excuse form.
- Always keep your contact information updated in our office by contacting our secretary.
- Backpacks are not to have wheels and are not to be rolled down the hallway.
- PTO Chuck E Cheese Spirit Night on the evening of Friday, September 6, 2024!
Safety Drills are completed throughout the year. We have already completed two school-wide fire drills, and individual classes have practiced at least one fire drill. We will conduct an additional eight school-wide fire drills over the remainder of the school year. We will also practice two "Code-Red Drills," both of which will be in September.
Our classroom teachers are your main contacts for questions related to your child. Mrs. Butler and Mrs. Miller are Inwood Primary's school co-coordinators. One or both of them are in charge of the building if I am absent. They may also send out school-wide messages or contact you about your child.
Thank you for a great start to the school year. We look forward to an exciting year here at Inwood Primary.
Take Care,
Mr. Ott

Proceeds from the sale of Smencils go to our teacher appreciation fund.
The price for Smencils this year is still only $2 each.
