Greetings Patriot Families,

Progress reports for the 4.5 grading period have been posted in Infinite Campus. Please take some time to review your child's grades and help them to create a plan for success if they are not currently on track with passing all of their classes. As a school, we will be implementing a student success plan for all scholars who are off track and failing two or more core classes. Please look for additional details about this initiative later this week. Students will begin making their academic and elective course selections this week as counselors meet with students to begin these conversations. Parents, now is the time to begin thinking about your student taking an AP/IB/Dual Enrollment course as well as determining elective offerings that lead to pathway completion like Fine Arts, CTE, and JROTC. Our aim is for every student to take as many rigorous course offerings as possible to prepare them for life after Sandy Creek.

Congratulations to our STAR Student Madison Lohr and our 2025 Star Teacher, Ms. Kelly Gallman. We are so proud of Madison and all that she has accomplished.

Congratulations to Jack Jung who won a State Championship last week in Swimming by placing 1st in the Boys/Girls 500 Freestyle. We are so proud of Coach Beane and Jack for what they have managed to accomplish with SC Swimming! Congratulations to our Varsity Girls and Boys Basketball teams for winning on Senior Night against Mary Persons. Our region tournament will begin this week at home so please come out and support both of our teams as they confirm their place in the playoffs. Coach Murphy and the Sandy Creek Wrestlers had a great showing in sectionals over the weekend and are headed to the State Championship in Macon. Help us to cheer on Reid Gay, Tyson Penson, and Avery Morgan as they make their mark in the State Competition. Coach Bo Heard and the Boys/Girls Soccer teams are off to a hot start! The Girls beat Rockdale on Friday night 10-0 and the Boys tied 2-2! The future is bright for SC Soccer!

We are thrilled to share that our math students, Simon Morano, Ameen Dayisi, Nam Tran, Arnav Gupta, and Deisy Anaya Plascencia won second place in the Griffin RESA Math Competition today, January 29, 2025, (Division 1).

We are very proud of their hard work and dedication!

Gracyn Thompson, who is a senior at Sandy Creek and president of the Drama Club/International Thespian Society Troupe 5821 is representing Sandy Creek and Fayette County this weekend at All-State Theater at ThesCon!

Congratulations to Mr. Dykes and our SkillsUSA students: Diana Johnson, Ava Downes, and Ginny Phan for earning 1st Place at the Regional Competition!

FBLA attended the Region 7 Leadership Conference on Wednesday, January 29 at Osborne HS. Students attended networking and leadership sessions and we had one student, Aryn Parker, place 5th in the region in Financial Math. She advances to the FBLA State Leadership Conference which will take place from March 14-16, 2025.

Our 9th grade boys played vs Northgate in their 9th grade tournament championship & won a nail biter 46-43. Full team effort & a lot of diff guys stepping up at diff times to deliver when it counted most. Guys stepping up for others, playing thru injuries, & battling when it wasn’t going their way. The progress and confidence they’ve gained from where they were at the first game of the season is a true testament to their ability to improve & what Coach Brown & Hughley have done w/ that team. Congrats!!!

Spelman College SMASH Academy Visit

A representative from Spelman College and Morehouse College SMASH Academy will be on campus to meet with students to discuss this summer opportunity for 10th and 11th grade students interested in computer science on Wednesday, Jan. 29th at 10:30. About Notable Narratives:

NN is a 501 (c)(3) college essay service organization that provides completely free college essay editing services to first generation and/or low income (FGLI) high school seniors applying to college. We do this by pairing college applicants with FGLI college students, as having an advisor that comes from a similar background will allow students to feel more comfortable receiving help

Since our founding in August 2020:

• Our 90 FGLI college advisors have assisted over 1,750 students from 102 unique countries and all 50 states.

• 1 in 4 students who filled out our annual survey were accepted into an Ivy League or Stanford University.

• 94% of our students were BIPOC, and 50% identified as both first-generation and low-income.

Next Steps:

Attached is a Registration Form for you to share with your students. NN’s services are available to those who self-identify as low income and/or first generation; students do not need to identify as both to apply. I will also be sending this resource to the SCHS counselors.

The Campus Parent portal is your source for student and family records, including household and individual contact information, attendance, school-based fees, academic planning (high school), forms, and report cards. The Parent portal also provides access to the GaDOE SLDS Portal. Please set up the parent Infinite Campus account first. The same username will be shared with Schoology to set up your parent account in Schoology. Because each login reflects the person associated with the username, it is recommended that a separate account is created for each parent.

• Usernames can be comprised of letters, numbers, the underscore, and dash.
• Please refrain from creating a username that is all numbers, as that will interfere with student data here in our district.
• After completing the setup of your parent portal account, please allow 24 hours for your new account information to be sent to Schoology before attempting to log into your Schoology parent account.
