EVERYONE LEARNING, EVERYONE LEADING
Dear Longacre Families,
Today we honored the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. by participating in a silent march through the school followed by a school assembly in the gym. Students learned that Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. believed in fighting for what is right, but he wanted to do it in a way that showed peace, respect, and love. He didn’t believe in using violence or fighting back with anger. Instead, he used something called silent protest—which means standing up for your beliefs without saying a word.
Our student Community Builders, facilitated by Mrs. DiBella and Ms. Perris, led our school assembly and connected the following insights after reading, The Other Side by Jacqueline Woodson.
All kids can play together.
All parents are able to talk to each other.
Kids don’t have to sit on the fence to see each other.
Everyone gets to meet each other and get to know the good things about each other.
Everyone gets to play together.
Everyone will be together.
People are not separated anymore.
We all have FREEDOM!
We can run around in both yards…any yard we want to!
We can learn about other cultures and about their holidays.
There are many activities planned to honor the life and legacy of MLK this weekend and on Monday, January 20th. Please scroll down for more specific information.
As always, feel free to contact me or the main office at 248-489-3733 if you have any questions.
With Longacre Pride,
Rhonda Henry, Principal
