Speedway High School Overwatch Team Captures IEN 3A State Championship
Muncie, IN — The Speedway High School Overwatch 2 team clinched the Indiana Esports Network (IEN) 3A State Championship on Saturday, April 26, at Ball State University, defeating Anderson High School with an impressive 3-0 victory. The Sparkplugs' win not only avenged their only loss of the season but also capped off a dominant campaign with a final record of 37-1.
The team, composed of Ryan Andrews, Ean Figueiredo, Moses Lamy, Daniel Lopez, David Lopez, Nate Pipher, and Damon Russell, demonstrated resilience and adaptability throughout the match. After a rocky start on the first point of the first map, Speedway rallied, made key adjustments, and seized momentum to secure the sweep.
"The team dug a huge hole for itself on the first point of the first map, but they stayed calm and made the needed adjustments to secure the win," said Coach Ryan Dunfee. "There were several points when the match could have gone either way; it was a lot closer than the final 3-0 score would indicate. Anderson is a really good team. They played well all year and deserved to be the #1 seed going into the championship match."
After winning the IEN 2A State Championship last year, Speedway opted to move up to 3A this season for a bigger challenge—and rose to meet it. Saturday’s victory highlights the growth, dedication, and competitive spirit of the team.
The journey isn't over yet. Speedway High School will next compete in the PlayVS Cup in May, a national tournament featuring regional champions from across the country.
Congratulations to the Speedway High School Overwatch team on a historic back-to-back state title achievement!
