Thank You
Thank you to everyone who was able to attend our Parkwood Upjohn open house. It was so great seeing all of our students and families as they picked out free books and visited their classrooms!
We are excited for our upcoming school fundraiser; our Parkwood Panther Prowl! This event takes place on October 4th. We had a kickoff assembly this Friday. Pictures and more info below!
Finally, arrival and dismissal reminders: Remember there is no parking in the bus lane. At arrival, sometimes people park there when they don't see buses. Sometimes the bus is running late, and will need to pull in to the bus lane quickly when they arrive at the school. It's also illegal to park in the bus lane at any time. Please do not let children cross the road in front or behind the buses. This is very dangerous. Children should cross with an adult at the cross walks. Thank you for helping be good role models and keeping our kids safe!
Thank you again, and here's to another amazing week!

Picture Day
Picture Day is coming up this week!
This year we are using Lakeshore photography due to several barriers that popped up last year. We are excited for their partnership! A few families have reached out that their Picture Day reminder email had an error in it. Lakeshore is working to correct this and for now it's just a reminder that pictures are coming up. We will have it corrected by Picture Day.
This year we have split Picture Day up into two days. This allows us to take pictures each morning and if someone is absent, they can take pictures on the opposite day.
Our plan is to have PEEP/K through 2nd grade take pictures on Thursday and 3rd through 5th grade take pictures on Friday. If your child will not be here one of those days, you can let your teacher know and we can have them take a picture on the other day. Thank you and let us know if you have any additional questions!
Staff Spotlight: Parkwood Art Teachers
Ms. Cunningham is Returning to Parkwood
My name is Emma Cunningham, and I am one of three art teachers at Parkwood Upjohn this year. I teach Monday and Tuesday art classes. I recently graduated from Western Michigan University in 2023. This is my 2nd year teaching art in KPS! I live with my fiance and our dog here in Kalamazoo. In my free time I competitively figure skate and coach private lessons. I can't wait to continue to work with our artists here at Parkwood Upjohn this year!
Ms. Drake is Returning to Parkwood
My name is Danelle Drake, and I am one of three art teachers at Parkwood this year. I teach the Wednesday morning and Friday art classes. This is my 17th year teaching art in KPS! I love sharing my love of art with students, and I love seeing their creativity shine in the art room. I am married and have two sons, a 7th grader and a 4th grader. In our free time, we play and watch a lot of soccer. I'm looking forward to a great year!

Erin Brott K-5 Visual Art Teacher
Professional: I am an artist and educator who has been teaching in and around Detroit for the past 11 years. I studied Fine Arts and Art Education at the College for Creative Studies in Detroit and then received my Bachelors of Science in Education from University of Michigan. I just moved to Kalamazoo and this is my first year teaching at Parkwood Upjohn, I also teach art at Woods Lake Elementary. I am so excited to be here and begin to learn more about all the creativity that thrives in the Kalamazoo community. Not only do I teach art in the K-12 realm I also facilitate adult painting & drawing classes & workshops through the College For Creative Studies Pre-College and Continuing Studies Department.
Personal: Outside of teaching art I love to paint and make art for myself. I grew up in southeastern Michigan and have a big family that I am very close with. I like to spend a lot of time with my friends, and especially my sisters, nieces and nephew. I also like to travel and visit different art museums across the country and world! I also enjoy spending time outdoors doing adventurous things like hiking, mountain biking, kayaking and playing soccer.
Families Please fill out this form
Great News!
So far we have 287 families who have filled out this form and we still need about 141 more families to fill out the form. This is very important so that we get the full amount of funding needed for our students. This can affect the number of tutors we can have in our building and other resources if we don't have everyone's support in filling out these forms. If you have questions or need help filling out these forms, please email rosecransje@kalamazoopublicschools.net.
Please click here or below to get to the form. Select "Apply for Benefits." After accepting the terms and conditions, select the "Education Benefit Form."
