Ripon Cathedral School Update
Week ending Friday 12th July 2024
Outstanding Outcomes
This week we received the Key Stage 2 assessment outcomes for Year 6. The children have performed brilliantly and the school's outcomes are once again above national standards in all areas, particularly for pupils attaining a high outcome. As our current Year 6 did not take assessments at Year 2, due to covid, there are no progress scores. However we have closely tracked the children from Reception and the progress from starting points has been outstanding. Across the school, results reflect the high standards of teaching and learning. In Reception the proportion of children attaining a good level of development is above national, phonics screening outcomes in Year 1 continue to be outstanding and our times tables results in the Year 4 screening were excellent. A huge thank you to all the staff in the school for their dedication, commitment and hard work which ensures that the school is performing so well across all key stages.
Return to Pantomime Planet
We are very excited about our Key Stage 2 production, Return to Pantomime Planet. If you haven't got your boarding pass yet for your flight on Beanstalk 1, there are some still available for the Tuesday afternoon flight at 1.30pm. As pictures of productions have appeared on social media in the past, for safeguarding reasons, photographs and video will not be allowed during the flight. We want parents and carers to be in the moment and enjoy this fantastic production. At the end of the flight parents and carers can take photos of their children in their costumes if they wish. We will take lots of photos at our dress rehearsal and will upload them to the gallery section of the school website for parents to access.
For the evening flights which take off at 6.30pm we do ask that children arrive at the school for 6pm - 6.10pm (to their classrooms) They should be picked up later from their classrooms which will be at approximately 7.45pm.
Reception Visit Newby Hall
Reception Explore Newby Hall
On Thursday, Reception went to Newby Hall. We were so excited! When we arrived, we went on a scavenger hunt through the doll’s house exhibition, looking for different characters, animals, and scenes. Our favourite doll’s house had moving characters, and we also loved the model of the stables. We then explored the Teddy Bear House and went on our own bear hunt. We found bears getting married, having a picnic and even one bear having a bath! Afterwards we went to the Matombo sculpture workshop where we explored the amazing statues and sculptures. We got to have a go with the artists’ tools including files, and hammers and chisels. It was hard work! Finally, we went to the play area and we had a brilliant time playing on the banana boat swings, exploring the climbing frame and digging in the sandpit. We had a fantastic day and the whole class were superb representatives of the school.
Year 6 Leavers
Class of 2024
On Thursday evening, parents and children from our Year 6 class came to school for a special celebration. We presented the children's leaver hoodies along with word clouds that included words and phrases that described each individual in Year 6. Children shared their memories of their time at Ripon Cathedral School and we also enjoyed looking back on pictures from Reception through to Year 6.
School Update
Lunch on Tuesday
In order to be ready for our afternoon Key Stage 2 performance of Return to Pantomime Planet, children will be eating in classrooms and there will be no jacket potato option. Children will be able to select either the ham baguette or cheese baguette as per the menu.
End of Year
We only have one week to go. School closes for the summer on Friday 19th July at 3.10/3.15pm. Please note that there will be no Oscars after school on Friday 19th July.
Keeping Safe
Please can parents and carers ensure that children are not allowed through the fence by the main gate onto the banking. There is a significant drop at the top over the boundary wall and we would not want any unnecessary accidents.
Stars of the Week
We always enjoy sharing who our Stars of the Week are in our special Celebration Worship on Friday.
Nursery
Alex for keeping to the beat and following rhythms.
Reception
Stella for engaging well with provision and maintaining focus when trying her best.
Year 1
Leo for flourishing with his writing! Leo has worked hard to write a humorous and accurate description of his puptastic pup treats for his recipe.
Year 2
Isaac for putting super effort into all that he does, in particular his printing and felting this week.
Year 3
Noah for great focus this week, especially when writing a story based on our class book 'Journey.'
Year 4
Ella for showing determination and resilience with her soap sculpture.
Year 5
Missy for always being ready to learn and putting 100% effort into everything she does. Well done Missy.
Year 6
Noah for his dedication when practising for the production and for helping to organise everyone back stage.
River Skell Project
Year 6 Local Rivers
Year 6 have been learning about local rivers and on Monday, they were lucky enough to have a visit from the River Skell Project. They discussed how rivers are formed and labelled the different parts of the river; looked at what beavers do and why that is important; and looked at the different ways rivers are polluted. The children were also given the chance to enrich their science learning by using microscopes to look at the river invertebrates in more detail. They used classification keys to identify and categorise the different animals living in our local rivers. A fantastic and practical way to learn about rivers and our local area.
