Semester 1 is flying by. October was a busy month with athletics, music, and drama events in full swing. We are excited for the Camrose Composite Playhouse production of Roald Dahl’s Willy Wonka at the Jeanne & Peter Lougheed Performing Arts Centre on November 29 and 30. We are holding our Awards Night on November 22. Recipients should please remember to confirm their attendance with Mr. C. Kendall. November 22 is a great day of celebration as we are also holding our Honours Recognition in the morning and our Wall of Fame Ceremony in the afternoon. Grades 10-12 students who are on the Grades 9-11 2023-24 Honours List will attend the Honours Recognition at 8:45 a.m. in the Trojan Zone. The 2023/24 Honours List is posted in the Trojan Zone.
We encourage our students to continue to work hard in their courses to build resiliency and progress in their learning growth. Remember the importance of regular attendance to maximize learning opportunities.
Thank you to community volunteers, parents, and staff for leading extra-curricular activities for our students. These opportunities help support the wellness of our students and assist in maintaining a positive school culture.
Last week, our classes took part in a bus evacuation drill. Organized by the BRSD Transportation Department and led by our bus drivers and teachers, students learned important tips about bus safety. Our students also participated in a lockdown drill. Thank you to Camrose Police Service and the Camrose Fire Department for assisting with this drill. Grade 9 students had an opportunity to play Hockey Hooky by attending a Camrose Kodiaks game. Thank you to the student council for organizing Halloween activities this week.
We have had the opportunity to host Indigenous recruiters from several universities this month. We encourage all Grades 11-12 students to check in with the career counselors regarding post-secondary and scholarship opportunities.
Our parent-teacher conferences held on October 30 had a great turnout with 524 interviews. Parents, please contact your child’s teachers if you have questions about their progress.
Please contact us if you have questions.

What Staff Are Reading
Student Council
This month the student council has been very busy. The highlights include the celebration of Thanksgiving, Orange Shirt Day and preparations for Halloween. Students absolutely loved participating in our week-long Thanksgiving activities that incorporated eating contests of pumpkin pie, potatoes, and stuffing. The winners of these games were awarded with gift cards for the local Sweeterie. The student council was also able to initiate positivity within our community while remaining on the theme of giving while engaging in a week long food drive for the Camrose Food Bank. Next up we have been focused on getting ready for our Halloween activities! Some of next week's upcoming events are going to be a theme week starting with a pajama day and ending with our notorious costume contest. This year we have even started a new Trojan Halloween tradition by including cars into our costume contest. Students will be encouraged to decorate their vehicles on theme and then submit photos to be judged and portrayed over the morning announcements. In November we are looking forward to hosting a Remembrance Day ceremony to honor our veterans, as well as participating in Movemeber to raise awareness for prostate cancer. Student council is proud of us for our collective Trojan pride exhibited through participation and excitement about our events. As our second month comes to a close I can confirm that it has been a blast so far and it is only the beginning!
ÉCCHS School Council
Hi all, I’m your School Council Chair, Pam Boyson. I have a son in Grade 10, so second year in this awesome building! We’d love to have you join us at our school council meetings to learn about what’s going on, hear from our student council, administrators, teachers and school board trustees. We are lucky that we as a school don’t have to fundraise, so it’s just an opportunity to come and engage with no extra duties to take on!
We meet every second month at 7:00 p.m. in the Library Commons. The meeting dates for the rest of the year are December 11, February 12, April 9 and June 11th.
If there is anything you’d like to bring forward, you can always email me at ecchsparentcouncil@gmail.com. You can also find us on Facebook (ECCHS School Parent Council) and be sure to follow the ECCHS Instagram page (ecchs_trojan_scene).
Here’s to another great year at ECCHS!
BRACE Shared Student Update
Thank you to all families for completing the Verification and Acknowledgement forms. If you have not completed these, please ensure that you look for an email from Mark Chanasyk with instructions. Students that do have both of these forms completed will have their courses paused.
All students should be checking in with teachers on their assignments and their completion status. Remember, there is a progress bar at the top of the course in Moodle to see how far students are along!

ÉCCHS Athletics - November 2024
Football
Our football team has wrapped up their first season back in 12 man football with a 17-7 win over Stettler on October 18th. That win placed them 5th in their league. They’ve had a bye week and now play Lacombe at home on November 5 to wrap up their season. It’s been a pretty successful season for the team. They battled some injuries throughout, but held their own against well established 12 man programs. This season is certainly something that they can build on for next year.
Volleyball
All our volleyball teams are ramping up for their playoff stretch. Our junior teams hosted a successful home tournament in early October. The boys team lost a close final while our girls emerged as champions. Both our grade 9 teams and junior teams have their season ending tournament in the first week of November. Our senior teams host their home tournament November 1 and 2, a link to the schedule is below. Both senior teams advanced to their zone championship on November 16th. The boys will travel to Lacombe as the 2nd ranked team while our girls have finished first in league and will host their zone tournament. Provincials for the boys team is in Lloydminster while the girls are in Ponoka.

Cross Country Running
Our cross country running team has wrapped up a very successful season. After having multiple top 6 finishes in the Battle River Running series, our high school team hosted the zone cross country championship on October 9th. Our team had a great day qualifying 14 runners for the provincial championship in Grande Prairie on October 19th. Our team also won the 3A team zone championship, in fact, only LTCHS, the 4A team from Red Deer accumulated more points than our Trojan runners. At the provincial championship in Grande Prairie our team faced a cold, wet day that created a pretty slippery course. The team persevered through and finished as the 4th best 3A school in the province.
Basketball
Basketball season is right around the corner. Tryouts will start for our high school teams after our November break with our grade 9 teams right after. The first game action of the season will be our senior Boston Pizza Classic November 29th and 30th.
