A Word From Mrs. Loor
The Garden Club met for the first time this week! We closed down our garden for the winter. We will be learning about gardening over the next few months in preparation for planting in the spring.
I am truly grateful for this school community. It is always so evident how passionately you love your children and are vested in their success in life. I am proud to partner with you on this journey not only as an educator, but as a fellow parent walking this road as well. I hope that you are able to enjoy time with your family and friends this Thanksgiving holiday and deeply appreciate the blessings we have in our lives.
Please take a minute and read the updates from the nurse's office, the library and the music department.
Happy Thanksgiving!
With Warmest Regards,
Mrs. Loor

The Kindness Crew wrote Thank You cards to our Veterans and I delivered them to Congresswoman Mikie Sherrill’s office to add to her collection. Our student messages were so heartfelt!
In keeping with Kindness (and in recognition of World Kindness Day on Nov. 13), I spent some time sharing Orion Jean’s Race To Kindness and his book about kid leadership. Students were encouraged to share their own contributions to Orion’s Race to 1,000,000 Acts of Kindness. If you visit the website, scroll down to see a few of Franklin’s posts added to the padlet. If your kind act doesn’t appear there, be sure to watch the count number change!
We would like to remind you about our new library program that will help us continue to grow our collection with up-to-date favorites. “Celebration Books!” is an opportunity for families to dedicate books to the library in recognition of a special event (graduation, moving up, birthday) or “just because,” in honor of their child. Please read the linked letter, or reach out to us for more information.
A huge thank you to the families that have already participated! These popular books have been in high demand and are constantly circulating!
Finally, we have recently lost an inordinate number of books to water damage. PLEASE make sure your child’s water bottle is secure when placing it in their backpacks. If it is a cup that is not leakproof, please remind your child to keep it away from their backpacks and books. Thank you!
From the Nurse's Office
Dear Franklin parents and guardians,
Communities are continuing to see an increase in childhood illnesses, including pneumonia, RSV, parainfluenza and the rhinovirus (the virus that causes sinus infections).
Many students are coming to school after receiving Tylenol, Advil and other cough and cold medications at home prior to arrival, along with the instructions to “call home if no improvement.”
Although the medications may help your student to feel better, it is generally considered a problematic practice as it only temporarily reduces symptoms, masks the underlying illness and allows for the continued spread of germs and illness. This is not what our school and community needs as we head into the holiday season!
If your child is not feeling well at home, or is exhibiting signs of illness, prior to school please keep them home! This is the only way to ensure that our school community stays healthy.
If your child is absent due to illness please specify the specific illness and/or symptoms when reporting the absence. This allows our district and local health department to monitor for outbreaks.
Thank you for doing your part in keeping our Franklin School community healthy!
If you have any medical questions or concerns never hesitate to reach out to our school nurse, Ann Zanelli. Her email is azanelli@summit.k12.nj.us.
You can also visit the Summit Public Schools Virtual Health Office for additional information.
