Center Features Springdale Artists
Student, educators featured in Fayetteville art exhibition
Springdale students and staff are featured in Northwest Arkansas School Art Exhibitions from Feb. 19 through March 2 at the Community Creative Center in Fayetteville.
“There is no overall theme, except to showcase the amazing work that our secondary students are producing,” said Milan Jilka, Har-Ber High School art teacher. “This will be our largest show at CCC to date, because we have more participating teachers this year.”
Springdale Public Schools’ teachers and classes featured in the exhibit include Jilka, Betsy Allison, Gillian Lindsey and Dawn Graham from Har-Ber High School, Whitney Bell and Ty Lee from Springdale High School, Pam Lock of Kelly Middle School, Marriah Geels and Audrea Danenhaur of Don Tyson School of Innovation and Hannah Wright of Central Junior High School, said Whitney Bell, art teacher.
The exhibition will initially feature the work of art educators, followed by student pieces later in the month, she said.
“The art looks phenomenal,” Bell said of the exhibition.
Exhibition works will reflect a variety of mediums, Jilka said, such as drawing, painting, ceramics and Advanced Placement art and design.
Bell’s painting students contributed acrylic and gouache paintings to the exhibition, she said. The works have a varied tone and include landscape paintings created after students studied the various ways American artists have portrayed the nation from the iconic, yet complicated, Hudson River School movement until today.
“The two projects I've selected work from include our very first canvas painting, monochromatic still lifes inspired by the still life genre throughout art history, specifically Italian painter Giorgio Morandi,” Bell said.
The exhibition can be viewed in the main hallway of the Community Creative Center, 505 W. Spring St., from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, she said. A reception featuring light snacks and refreshments will be offered from 6-8 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 29 at the creative center.
The exhibition and reception are free and open to the public, Jilka said.
