Welcome to the monthly Continuous Improvement and State & Federal Programs communication. The purpose is to contextualize Continuous Improvement into our daily work, to efficiently complete all State and Federal Program tasks, and to promote moving these tasks past simple compliance.

Updated Info: Extended COVID-19 Learning Plans

SB 927 introduced a variety of changes to PA 149 (Extended COVID-19 Learning Plans). There are now additional reporting requirements for Reconfirmation Meetings and a new requirement to publish training on virtual content to teachers, parents, and students. New and updated resources are linked below.

MICIP Update (Michigan Integrated Continuous Improvement Process)

MICIP development continues on schedule. The final testing phase was completed in September, and Testing Partners will get early access to the MICIP Platform starting this month. MDE anticipates a statewide rollout in January. We will all use the MICIP process to complete our continuous improvement (formerly school and district improvement).

While we're waiting for the statewide rollout, it is important for your organization to get connected to MiDataHub. Districts must be connected to the Data Hub to use MICIP. MICIP will also interact with NEXUS, the platform that is replacing MEGS+. In other words, you will not be able to complete your consolidated application in 2021 unless you are connected to the Data Hub. I suggest getting connected earlier rather than later to work out any issues.

Important 31a Information

As a reminder, 31a funding is based off of the district Free and Reduced Price lunch count. It is important for districts to be correctly documenting this in the SIS and reporting to MSDS during the count period. Many districts are providing free meals to all students right now, but please make sure your district continues to identify students for F/R lunch or you will see a substantial reduction in your 31a allocation next year.

A second note on 31a. The identification criteria appear to be the same this year. Count period is a great time to get your kids identified. What about state testing data? Per MDE OES, it is permissible to use the most current testing data for identification, which is the 2018/2019 state assessment.

Virtual Title I Parent Meeting Toolkit

Many schools are not able to complete their normal Title I Parent Meeting this year due to restrictions on large gatherings, not allowing parents into the building, or running 100% remote programs. The following resources will help you meet the requirements for the Title I Parent Meeting, including sharing about Title I and soliciting input on required documents.

Mark you calendar for the following dates. At this time, please plan on the meetings being offered virtually. Although these are being organized by MAISD and OAISD, anyone can attend any session.

Reminder: MASFPS Professional Learning Series Registration

We had a great kick-off to our PL series on September 30th. It's not too late to register for the series or any specific dates. Topics include legal updates, 31a, MTSS, MICIP, MDE updates and presentations from local districts.

Single sessions are $100 each, full series is $500. Each participant must register individually.
