2024 Newsletter - Week 11, Term 1
Greenmeadows School, 12th April 2024
PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
Tēnā koutou kātoa,
We've reached the end of the first term! Congratulations to our own Lily Kay, who is at her graduation ceremony today, receiving her teaching degree. We are proud of your achievement, Lily, and so glad that you chose to be part of our team.
We have a couple of additions to our teaching team for next term too! A big welcome to Rochelle Ravlich and welcome back to Roslyn Hobbs, both of whom will be co-teaching a new class of new entrants. We are super excited to have you both on board. They will operate out of Room 15, which is a larger space that will allow the class to grow again in Terms 3 and 4. I am thankful to the group of Totara children and their teacher who have moved out of that space and into Room 4 for the remainder of the year.
On Monday night, I had the privilege of listening to Rob Cope talk about internet safety. It was a very enlightening, and at times, confronting session. He did have some excellent advice in the latter part of the session for parents to help reduce risks that your children may be exposed to online. I am very keen to hear from any Greenmeadows parents who attended the evening, so please get in touch with me if you were there and have views to share.
I trust that our tamariki are looking forward to the holidays and the chance to recharge. I am lucky enough to be heading to Auckland this weekend to watch my daughter play canoe polo, and I might just sneak away on Saturday to catch the Warriors game! I hope that you all get to spend a bit of special time with your own children over the break too.
Ka kite anō,
Darren Holloway
Principal
WELCOME TO GREENMEADOWS SCHOOL
We welcome Maddie Howe, Orrin Lo, Aria Whiting and Luca Warner.
Our roll is currently sitting at 450.
We wish every one of you, all the very best for your time at Greenmeadows School.
ANZAC DAY SERVICES
We have had a couple of ANZAC-related events recently. Last week, our school enjoyed success at the Spirit of Anzac speech competition. Congratulations to Nathaniel Pearson who won the primary event, and Isabella Babiarcik, who placed second. Incidentally, two ex-Greenmeadows students, Dot Fowler and Willow Hambleton, took first and second respectively, in the intermediate event. We are super proud of you all!
Earlier this week, Nathaniel and Dot were called on to deliver their speech to a much larger crowd at the Taradale Schools Spirit of Anzac Service at the Taradale clock tower. This event is organised by students in our local high schools for all the kura in our area. Again, there were a number of ex-Greenmeadows students involved in organising, speaking and singing at the service. It is so pleasing to see these students continuing to shine, even after they have left us.
During the holidays, a number of our school leaders will represent our school at the Taradale Anzac Service. I am sure that many of our families already choose to attend this event each year and I look forward to seeing some of you there.
In the first week back, our regular Friday assembly on 3rd May will be replaced with our own Greenmeadows Anzac Service. Exact details will be confirmed once we have heard from our guest speaker, but we usually invite children to bring in a flower from home (not a neighbours garden, unless they consent) to lay at the flag pole, and a gold coin for those who wish to contribute to the Greendale Services Association. Please note that both of these are optional.
GRANDPARENTS SURVEY - TAKE 2!
Thank you to those who have completed this survey. There was a problem with the link initially, so please try again if you had a problem.
Thanks!
PLAYGROUND SUPERVISION
If you choose to allow your child to play on our playground outside of normal school hours (e.g. during cricket matches on Saturday morning or after school during the week) then please ensure that they are supervised by an adult. When the gates are locked, we expect that people do not enter our grounds.
