Staff Spotlight
Our spotlight employee of the month is our school secretary, Mrs. Angela Morrow. We are so excited to give her this award as we believe she has definitely earned this honor. Mrs. Morrow has been with Bowlesburg since the 2011-2012 school year when she was hired as a clerical/library aide. When the position of school secretary became available, Angie easily transitioned to the position.
Mrs. Morrow’s ties to Bowlesburg run deep. She is a parent of two former Bowlesburg students, Madelyn and Natalie. Madelyn is now an English teacher at United Township, and Natalie is studying Mechanical Engineering at Monmouth College. Mrs. Morrow served as the Bowlesburg PTA President while her children were at Bowlesburg and continues to help PTA functions as her time allows. An Iowa native, graduating from Bettendorf HS and Scott Community College for Business Administration, she and her husband, Dennis, now make their home in Silvis. During their free time, Angie and Dennis enjoy attending Monmouth’s Fighting Scots soccer matches, where Natalie is a player, and spending time with family and friends.
Angie was selected by staff for the amazing job she does and for volunteering to help out in areas that are not part of her job duties. She fulfills her job duties with patience, kindness, and a smile on her face. She is the first person the community sees when they come to Bowlesburg. She is always willing to help staff and families out whenever possible. If Angie doesn’t know the answer to a question for families, she will find the answer for them. Bowlesburg is very fortunate for Mrs. Morrow’s continued support of Bowleburg’s staff, students, and families. Congratulations on your award Mrs. Morrow!
Supporting Your Students At Home
Reading to children at home is a vital part of their cognitive and emotional development. When parents read to their kids, they expose them to a variety of words, sentence structures, and ideas, which helps build vocabulary and improves language skills. Additionally, asking questions about the story as you read encourages children to think critically and engage with the material, fostering a deeper understanding of what they're hearing. This practice not only supports reading comprehension but also promotes curiosity, imagination, and emotional connection with the story. By discussing characters, settings, and events, children learn to make predictions, analyze the plot, and understand different perspectives, all of which are essential skills for academic success and personal growth.
Ask these questions to your students while they are reading to support comprehension!

Birthday Snacks and School Wellness Policy
If you or your student is planning to bring snacks to school, please follow the District Wellness Policy.
In accordance with the Wellness Policy:
1. ALL SNACKS PROVIDED AT SCHOOL WILL COMPLY WITH THE FEDERAL SMART SNACK GUIDELINES This means that we have to make sure that we are giving students healthy items such as: *fruits and vegetables *low sugar snacks *low fat snacks
2. ALL SNACKS/TREATS BROUGHT INTO THE SCHOOLS MUST BE PREPACKAGED (no homemade treats). Due to the increase in severe food allergies, all food must not only comply with the Smart Snack guidelines but they must also be packaged with a listing of ingredients. Fruits and vegetables do not have to follow this guideline. Healthy snacks are available to purchase from the Food Service Office on the district website.
3. WE ARE MOVING AWAY FROM USING FOOD AS INCENTIVES and FOODS FOR CELEBRATIONS. We want our students to know that celebrating a birthday doesn’t have to mean treats. It can be as simple as a teacher offering a special activity for that child to celebrate a birthday. Please see our website for more information regarding our new wellness initiatives.
