PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
Friday, April 5th
I hope everyone had a wonderful week off for Spring Break! I have heard some wonderful stories about some of the trips that students went on and things they did at home! I certainly enjoyed some quality time with my family as well!
Despite the snow this week I PROMISE that summer will be here before we know it!! The time between now and summer break is always jam packed and full of lots of fun happenings so please do take some time to read through each Post we send on Fridays as there will always be important and helpful information.
Class and club photographs were taken this week! If you would like to order photos please click HERE.
Thanks,

SOLAR ECLIPSE - MONDAY, APRIL 8th (2nd POST!)
Dear Patton Community,
On April 8th, a total solar eclipse will be visible in the Chicagoland area. The following is the timeline in the Chicagoland area:
12:51 pm Total Eclipse Begins
2:08 pm Max Point of the Total Eclipse
3:22 pm Total Eclipse Ends
It can be damaging to our eyes to stare directly into the sun during a total eclipse. Because of this, I wanted to reach out to you to let you know our plan for that day to ensure the safety of our students and staff:
No recess or outdoor PE during the time frame of the total eclipse
Kindergarten, first, and second graders will be learning about the solar eclipse and will view a livestream of the solar eclipse indoors. For safety reasons, they will not be going outdoors to view the eclipse.
Third, fourth, and fifth graders will be going outside onto the field to view the solar eclipse with their classes.
The district will supply each 3rd - 5th grade student with the proper protective eyewear that should be worn outside during the total eclipse time frame.
Students MUST wear the protective eyewear in order to go outside during the total eclipse timeframe. Students MUST keep the protective eyewear on the entire time they are outside.
Your child’s teacher will reach out to you with more details about the plan for viewing the eclipse, along with safety information you must review with your child at home and a permission form we ask that you submit. Please check your emails on Thursday, March 21st.
Anyone who does not review the safety information with a parent/guardian at home and submit the online permission form will not be able to participate in the outdoor viewing and will be provided with an alternate activity indoors.
You will have an opportunity to opt your child out of the outdoor viewing experience. Should you decide to opt your child out of that experience, they will be provided with an alternate activity.
The following are some resources should you want to learn more about the Total Solar Eclipse | 2024:
National Science Teaching Association
We will speak to our students about how to responsibly experience the total eclipse and about the necessary safety precautions when going outside during a total eclipse. Please let your child's teacher know if you prefer not to have your child participate.
UPCOMING DRILLS (NEW POST!)
On Tuesday, April 9th we will be holding Bus Evacuation Drills at Patton. Each classroom will have its own schedule.
Twice a year, we conduct a lockdown safety drill with all students. This is one of the routine safety drills we practice throughout the year, along with evacuation drills, shelter-in-place drills, and bus evacuation drills. Students are prepared for this drill so they are not unnecessarily alarmed, and it will be announced in advance. Officer O'Leary from the Arlington Heights Police Department will also be in attendance during our practice drill.
Our last Lockdown Drill was in September and our next drill will be on Thursday, May 2nd.
MAP TESTING (NEW POST!)
The District Assessment Window for the NWEA Measures of Academic Progress (MAP) Assessment will run from April 15th to April 30th. Students in Kindergarten through fifth grade will be assessed in both reading and math during this timeframe. Classroom teachers will be sharing their specific testing schedules with families in the coming week. We appreciate your support with ensuring your children are well rested and nourished on testing days. We also ask that you try to limit absences unrelated to illness during this time. Thank you for your continued partnership!
CLASS PLACEMENT PARENT FEEDBACK FORM (2nd POST!)
Below, you will find a form you can fill out should you like to provide the school with any information you feel would be important as we consider class placement for your child for the 24-25 school year.
Please know that the placement process for all Patton students is extensive and well thought out. To that end, it is important to understand that requests for a specific teacher will not be considered, as allowing parents to request teachers puts a significant strain on an already extensive process.
All staff members are committed to providing the best education for your children.
This form is to be completed by FRIDAY, APRIL 19, 2024. Please complete one form for each child
