A Message from the Nurse
As cold, strep and flu season progresses, we are in that time of year when students are coming down with upper respiratory symptoms. Be advised, Strep throat is presenting itself with children not complaining of having sore throats or showing a fever, but they have ongoing tummy aches, nausea and may even throw up. Flu is presenting itself with temperatures of upper 99’s or low 100’s, runny nose, and cough. ***If your child has been diagnosed with strep throat, they must be on an antibiotic for 24 hours before returning to school.
Please be aware that Texas Administrative Code requires that students be excluded from school for a fever of 100.0 F or higher and they may not return to school until they are fever free for at least 24 hours without the use of fever reducing medication. Temporarily masking a fever with medication does not change the fact that your child is in the contagious period of an illness and may be spreading illness, like the flu, to others by coughing, sneezing and by touching surfaces around the school. While we value student attendance very much, it is important that everyone plays their part in keeping the spread of illness to a minimum by following this rule. Please also make sure that you have your daytime contact numbers and emergency contacts up to date with the Registrar so that you can be reached in the event your child is ill and must be picked up from school.
