Principal's Points
Finish What You Started!
As the end of the high school semester approaches, it's essential for students to focus on key areas to finish strong and prepare for the next semester. The following list are checklist items for all students to shrink their focus and implement positive habits that will help them show progress. Creating structure in study habits will provide a schedule that students need. Here are some final focus points:
Consistent Attendance
Attendance is the #1 Employability Skill that is taught at school.
Be on time, Be present, Be engaged.
Attendance is directly linked with student success. If the students miss one day, they fall two days behind in content understanding. That can manifest into a huge problem, very fast, so if a day is missed, make it a priority to make up the missing work as soon as possible.
Review and Organize Notes.
Go through class notes and organize them by subject.
Each student should use their class reviews to prepare properly for exams.
Create summaries or outlines for each topic to reinforce understanding.
Complete Assignments and Projects:
Prioritize completing any outstanding assignments or projects.
Check with teachers if there are any missing assignments that can still be submitted.
Prepare for Exams:
Exams begin on 1-22-25. Study your exam reviews and prepare in advance to ensure a confident approach to your assessments.
Create a study schedule for exams and put in the time.
Focus on understanding key concepts and practicing with past assessments or sample questions.
Review notes taken in class.
Form study groups with friends.
2nd Semester Focus:
Ask for Help:
Raise your hand and ask questions about confusing topics from teachers or classmates.
Attend review sessions or extra help sessions offered by teachers. After-school tutoring is available M-Th each week.
Time Management:
Plan study sessions with breaks to avoid anxiety.
Use a planner or calendar to manage deadlines and exam/test dates.
Stay up to date with your assignments.
Use your allotted time in class to complete work and get the necessary help that you may need.
Self-Care:
Ensure proper sleep and nutrition to support overall well-being.
Take breaks to relax and destress, especially during intense study periods.
Reflect on Goals:
Reflect on academic goals set at the beginning of the semester and measure where you need to focus your time.
Identify achievements and areas for improvement.
Stay Informed:
Be aware of any important announcements or changes in schedules.
Check in with teachers about exam formats or any special requirements.
Reduce Distraction:
Be responsible with phone use during the school day.
Use class time appropriately.
Allow teachers to teach and students to learn.
Remember that effective time management, consistent effort, and a positive mindset can contribute significantly to a successful end-of-semester experience.
