#TVStrong Strength Teamwork Respect Open-Minded Noble Goals
Welcome Ken Smikahl
For those of you who were unable to attend the Meet & Greet, we are pleased to welcome our new Athletic Director/Assistant Principal Ken Smikahl.
Ken Smikahl returns to Thompson Valley High School as our new Athletic Director/Assistant
Principal. He joins us from Colorado Early Colleges, where he served as the Academic Dean and
CTE Coordinator. With 16 years of experience in secondary education, Ken has held roles such
as the Athletic/Activities Director at Corner Canyon High School from 2017-2019 and taught life
science in the Thompson and Canyons School Districts. Throughout his career, he has also
coached Boys and Girls Basketball, Girls Golf, and Girls Tennis.
A proud 2001 graduate of Thompson Valley, Ken holds a BS in Biological Science from
Colorado State University, an M.Ed. in Secondary Education from Grand Canyon University,
and is currently completing his administrative license at Western Colorado University.
Outside of work, Ken enjoys traveling and attending country music concerts with his wife, Meg.
He is a bonus dad to Quinn (15) and Ashton (22), and the family enjoys supporting the CSU
Rams and spending time at their family cabin in Wyoming.
“I couldn’t be more excited to return to Thompson Valley as the Athletic Director/Assistant
Principal. I had so many great experiences here as a student, and it’s clear that the positive
culture is still alive and well among the staff and students. I can’t wait to contribute to the
ongoing success of our athletics and activities programs. I am committed to providing students
with the resources and support they need to succeed both inside and outside the classroom, while
promoting a culture of opportunity, sportsmanship, and competitiveness. The TVHS community
will continue to take pride in our students’ accomplishments both on and off the field.”
We want to hear from you.
Dear Thompson School District Stakeholders: As you may know, the Thompson School District Board of Education has begun searching for our next Superintendent of Schools to follow Dr. Schaffer when he leaves us at the end of the current school year. The Board has hired McPherson & Jacobson, a national school superintendent search firm, to assist us in finding the most qualified candidates available. As part of this important work, the Board has asked our search consultants to gather information and comments from stakeholders. So we would very much appreciate it if you would take just a couple of minutes to answer a few questions through an anonymous online survey. You can access the superintendent search survey by clicking this link. The survey will remain open through March 12, 2025. Thank you for your support,
Thompson School District

Gracias,
Thompson School District
TVHS Trivia
A new feature this year -- TVHS Trivia. Would you like to know more about TVHS? The staff had an opportunity to do just that. During the 12 days before Winter Break, the staff got to have some fun learning about some of the history of TVHS. We hope you enjoy it as much as we did. There will be a new Trivia question each week.

Meet Sara Smith
As an American Sign Language (ASL) Interpreter, I work closely with students who are Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing. ASL interpreters facilitate communication and connection between these students and their hearing peers and teachers. I am so grateful to the Deaf community for helping me to learn and grow as an interpreter. The Deaf community has taught me so much about resilience, adaptability, and the power of human connection. I am thankful for the trust they've placed in me and for the opportunity to play a small part in these amazing students' educational journeys.
At today's Classified staff meeting, Sara gave a presentation about sign language. Thank you Sara.
