PSRC celebrates Class of 2024!
High schools across the Public Schools of Robeson County held commencement ceremonies on Friday, June 14, 2024, honoring graduates from Fairmont, Lumberton, Purnell Swett, Red Springs and St. Pauls high schools.
PSRC Superintendent Dr. Freddie Williamson released a statement congratulating high school graduates.
“Congratulations, Class of 2024,” PSRC Superintendent Dr. Williamson said.
“I pray that you will use your education to continue on a successful journey in this life. You have overcome many obstacles throughout your high school career. Today is an exciting day to celebrate the end of your time as high school students and the start of your next chapter of life. I want to encourage you to seek God’s wisdom when you encounter moments of difficulty and uncertainty and to use your education to make this world a better place,” Dr. Williamson added.
Principal: ‘Knowing we made a difference’ was the most rewarding part of school year
“Knowing we made a difference in a scholar's future and that we helped them believe in themselves along their academic journey has been the most rewarding part of the school year for me.”
Those are the words of PSRC Early College High School Principal Andrew Davis.
Davis beamed with pride as ECHS graduates crossed the stage on May 17, knowing that students overcame obstacles and that he had encouraged them along the way.
But, the principal himself has drawn inspiration from the very students he and ECHS school staff members worked each day this school year to inspire.
FHS principal reflects on successes of school year
Fairmont High School with the school district’s partnership with Robeson Community College hosted a successful pilot program this year to give students the opportunity to take face-to-face college courses on the school’s campus.
The school piloted the initiative that welcomed instructors from RCC on campus to teach college-level Math 171 and 172 and English 111 and 112 courses in a classroom setting to students. The school like other high schools in the school district does allow and encourage students to take Career and College Promise Courses through RCC to gain college credits. Some CCP courses are on campus at RCC while others are offered online.
But, the face-to-face instruction offered at the school level is a game-changer, according to FHS Principal Dr. Anthony Barton.
“The relationship was built because the instructor was here on campus delivering face-to-face instruction,” Barton said.
Principal Suggs: Students, staff spark successful school year
St. Pauls High School Principal Jason Suggs says the school had a successful year thanks to students and staff members.
“What was the greatest thing that happened to St. Pauls High School this year? I can not think of one. I can think of 1,300,” Principal Suggs said. “Every student at St. Pauls High School is the greatest thing that has happened this year.”
Students and staff members play a huge role in how the school functions, he said.
“Every student is so valuable to the diversity and the family atmosphere that we strive to achieve here at St. Pauls High School. Every staff member goes above and beyond every day to help students. We have had so many success stories this year because of the bond between the faculty and students,” he said.
